Whatever this is popped up in one of my old flowerbeds. I've never grown anything that looks like this, but I did rent out our home over 10 years ago, and some of those old seeds have occasionally germinated.
It's been growing quickly, and the flower isn't too bad. I was thinking it was a weed, but I'm pretty familiar with all of the local weeds. This is in Scottsdale, AZ. Thanks for your help!

Not nudiflora. Unlike most other Ruellia, R. nudiflora sends a flower scape above the leaves, hence the name nudiflora.

It could be Drummond's Ruellia it has large leaves.

When you mentioned Ruellia, I figured it was a seedling from our ruellia that is about 100 yards away. I went to check, and the leaves are different. The volunteer has a sort of scalloped leaf. I'm sure that's not the correct term! Our Ruellia has a much smoother, more rounded leaf. Here is a pic of our Ruellia. I'm sorry I'm not sure of the species. That is our sweet dog, Shadow.
