Yep, great idea!
I had noticed the wording had changed from "Import" to "Associate" but I just thought it was one of @jon's subltle tweaks at work. Rolling on the floor laughing Thumbs up
Now that I realize it's a contest I will join in the fun. Hurray!

I love this idea! I was a little confused at first when I saw the "associated" in my messages this morning. Then I saw that it was a game and went to work finding photos and associating them with the database.

Now, though, after reading some of the comments from other posters regarding this, I am feeling a little guilty. And then I thought maybe the other person may not appreciate it, but just hasn't seen the contest yet and had a chance to opt out. Nothing was said about not associating bad photos or having too many photos of the same thing in the rules, so I thought any and all photos were up for grabs, benefiting both parties.

This is going to be a lot of work for the admins (who I appreciate wholeheartedly!). I am hoping I haven't already submitted photos that will make it difficult for them. But I still love this idea!

You're doing fine. "Bad photos" can be useful (unless they're bad in the sense of being too blurry or too small), and there's no such thing as "too many photos of the same thing." Photo owners can take remedies if they object to the inclusion of their photos, by opting out of the process and proposing the deletion of photos that were imported before they opted out of the process.

Thanks, zuzu! I have had some that were declined because they were duplicates, but hopefully have been doing better lately.

I disabled the association feature in my profile a long time ago. Prior to this new wording of the same feature (formerly Import to Database), when someone tried to import a photo of mine to the DB, a message came up: "This image is ineligible...." I was always miffed, as this sets an ambiguous implication that the decision was not mine, and that I am being punished for something. But, I was just happy that Dave allowed me to opt out at all, so I didn't complain.

Now the new wording clearly states that the determination is my own. Thank you Dave!

This is a good idea, and gets people working to update the data base.
I have come across several pictures where the plant was not already in the data base.
I don't mind if people here at ATP use my pictures, but I don't want people using them in the big "scrap books" that then charge money for people to use the pictures.
So I copyright them.

And now that we have done this--I will more likely note whether an image is in the data base--
either my own or others' !
