Here are a few more photos! Cropped and edited them. Definitely don't think they're that good, but the first one is the pièce de résistance of the park.

I like the first image of the new series. Really nice use of diagonals and a very nice image Smiling
Second: Another good use of a diagonal, I do wonder if it perhaps is a little tilted? Again maybe a little wider view (right side) would have worked well.
Third: I think that here the silky effect of the water becomes a bit much for me personally, but overall I think you did great shooting this waterfall series!

Hurray! Cropped version of the wider shot is definitely the winner nodding
Looks like a neat park!

Thanks for the info on the filter. I gather it is necessary to use something like that if you're attempting longer exposures...

(hmmm, we do have some flowing water around here and even waterfalls--nothing with easy access though, might have to ponder that a bit more...)

Thank You! Thank You! Thank You!

Glad you enjoyed the first one. It was kinda hard to take that one because of the swarms of people everywhere. The second one IS tilted! I think I didn't set my tripod up well. Will try to correct it later.
The third one may be slightly overdone. Too much of a good thing can be bad.

I wished I had posted my photos (just recently taken night shots in another Thread here) here. I would loved to have heard critique on those photos.

Yet, I have so much to learn about the simple camera itself and the settings. I see ShielaC has several nice threads which I want to read. However, when it comes to cold weather, brrrrr, I'm just not an outside person, and so it makes it hard to experiment, because outdoors is where I want to take my photos.

I love the fireworks photos above! I do often go to annual fireworks display. So can one become prepared indoors, for taking good outdoor photos? (Lighting seems to be a great factor.)

I'll just post one here from the other forum, and then yes, please critique. Thanks!

One must also be aware and keep in mind that I live in a very small space (and lotsa business clutter). I was backed into a wall or obstacle at almost every angle.

Picture of lamps. What is the subject? The lamps themselves or the setting? Correct exposure here is critical. Gene

As presented I would have preferred a little crop of the top and also a little darker exposure. Smiling

If you re-shot this scene you might want to try a little different arrangement. Perhaps get the big lamp a bit more off-center.

Or why not a vertical, with just the two lamps on the left. There seems to be some possibilities to create somewhat of a diagonal with just two lamps in the picture. This might add some extra interest to the image.

I like the atmosphere!

There, in a sense, really is no *subject* at all. Because posting photos of lamps themselves is not part of gardening.

I'm looking for such answers as "can I learn to take better photos indoors?" This following question wasn't asked, but if the answer to the previous question is in the positive, "then how?" since lighting is so different in the house.

And also, though the lamps are NOT the subject, I will share with you what I am hoping for, and it must follow a story, if you feel like reading: Now I own a duplex, and live in one apartment and did rent out the other. I happened to rent to two young giddy 'girls' (I will say), and they happened to be night owls. They loved to go out in my garden at night with the flashlight and look at my flowers. This experience was a real joy to them, though they irritated me many times keeping me up in the night, and then 'accusing me' of disturbing them (while I was weeding near their bedroom) during the day.

So based on this experience, their loving to visit my garden at night, I want to be able to take night photos of my flowers . . . which doe pertain to gardening.

So then, by setting up such a display, *indoors* can I learn to take photos outdoors, and even fireworks photos which does not pertain to gardening?

I know nothing about exposure?

Before I'm offline for a while, I just wanted to post my apologies, especially to evermorelawnless (who started this Thread) and to everyone else that I *even* posted to this Thread. I was know where to the place of critiquing my photos . . . when I really don't even know how to use my camera.

However, I still consider this an *excellent* thread for those *who are at that place*, and are wanting to learn more about Lighting (Aperature and the Triangle), and composition of their photos. And for others to come along and give them ideas about what they might have done to better their photo. I tip my hat to you.

Everyone is welcome to post here, of course.

And we all have our blind spots as well as very acute vision (metaphorically) when it comes to what we see and like and understand (and are able to explain) in a photo.

The only real hopes I have here are:

1) Those who post are truly looking for good suggestions (and not looking for accolades instead)

2) Those who critique are polite and constructive

That said: while I did start this one, it's not my thread. It belongs to everyone who is willing to participate.

I may be back, if I get it done, or there may be a need to start a new Thread about indoor lighting. But I'm hoping to set up some items on my mantle and try to use the Av setting to get everything in good focus. And then ask what I might have done to get a better indoor photo (people do like to take photos of their houseplants), but as said, that may be a Thread of its own. Like, flash versus automatic flash, I think I saw as settings, and I don't know about that stuff.
