Isn't it awesome jimard? I love watching them germinate. Almost everything has popped up here. Just another week or so and it should all be up. Surprisingly even the rose hips from my yellow roses have germinated. I only did that as a lark. When the water went out and we had to move them we were worried we'd lose them. Hopefully I will now have a backup. I do intend to propogate a piece of my belindas rose this year. I love that one. Now to find someone with a David austin lady of shallot rose bush. Then I'd have all the roses I want. But I can wait. Sometimes I actually do have patience. Yep, it surprises even me, lol.

I'm waiting mostly for all the salvia to come alive. The snaps have begun. And yep, I planted every single one of them and even ordered the aroma red spice from swallowtail. We're almost done with my beds. I really need one done tomorrow for the poppies. They are almost ready to plant. Won't be long now.

I did not look to see , only I have several more sprouting in the uncovered containers outside , They look to be sprouts of Kale , Mustard , Brussel sprouts and so forth ,, pretty cold here yet for much ,
Blooms and Munchies ,, Nothing better for the spirit of spring ,, Smiling

I am so jealous of you two, lol! Spring is teasing us right now...it's unseasonably warm, but just when we get comfortable, thinking we're sliding into the early spring we have been promised, we get hit with a winter storm.

I told my husband this is the Q-tip of winters...lots of white right at the beginning, nothing much during it (the middle), and then a bunch of snow at the other end of it. Sticking tongue out

Aww DND. No worries hon. It will be spring before you know it. Truth be told, I kind of wished it wasn't upon me so fast. I still have not finished laying out garden plans. Almost done but a couple more to do. I ended up having to plant as much as possible then go back and figure out where to put it. I'm already having to water at least once a week for those that have germinated.

Jimard, yes, it's the salvia I got from you in the swap. I'm in anticipation for the lyreleaf salvia to get here. I was kind of stunned a couple of weeks ago when some blue bedder salvia I had planted last year started emerging. Odd. Most times salvia does not come back for me. I'm going to chalk that one up to the mild winter. Have no clue where I'm going to put it this year though. But you can but I'll find a place for it as well. I have planted nearly everything I got from everyone here. The broccoli Dnd gave me has already germinated as well. I'm really going to enjoy that one. I cannot wait for my veggie garden either, lol. Ikeep dreaming about the lettuce I got here too, lol.

I'll be updating my thread with a couple of pics so you can see how far I've gotten with building my beds and a couple of pics of my seedlings. I've got to finish taxes first though. It is driving me batty not to have them done yet. Ihave a couple that needs a bit more work but until the ground dries I can't do anything. Probably this weekend I'll get the last of them done. 6

KarenHolt , I put a couple of the sage seeds (lyreleaf) and a few Lady in red seeds , into a window shelf bottle to test germinate them ,, One of the Lady in red Salvia seeds has broke open , and germinated , (to small to photo ) That was overnight , poof
All others are quiet ,, You must have "Freaky" ground temperatures . or something eating roots in colder seasons ,Those should all grow really well in your zone ,,
I will get a photo up here if it is okay ,(the seedling )

Jimard,
I'v always had a hard time with salvia. But do not fret yet over the lyreleaf. I also have farao, blue sunday, pink monday and a couple of others that I am waiting on to germinate. The farao, blue sunday and pink monday are this years baker creek seed so if they are not coming on and lyreleaf is not coming on, it's ok. I'll wait another week or two for signs of germination. I did find it odd that the blue bedder I had chunked in a pail last year and honestly did not do worth a poop in my opinion, is coming back. As I said way earlier before the swap, it's odd if salvia does well for me here. I do have an area that is excellent for salvia. I really do not understand the deal with salvia and me, lol.

My pics of my house and where I intend to put things are in the post titled "Untitled" in here. When I posted, I forgot to add a subject and there is no way for me to edit it. Sad I do have a few pics of just the beds that have been tilled. Nothing in ground yet. End of March/beginning of April should see those changes. Then I only have a few of some germination of the ws'ing I've done.

We had rain on Wed evening and it was bad enough I still had standing water thursday in the yard. Pretty much makes me happy nothing is planted yet. We're supposed to have rain again on monday or tuesday. Too wet to finish enlarging my shade garden and my herb beds. I still have to move my roses and honeysuckle bush and a few hostas. I have hostas and coral bells coming up in my shade garden already. Since probably the second week of february.

If you look in the left pail, that little piece of green is the blue bedder salvia in the pail from last year. The larger pail is my coneflower from last year with NoID. it's already started leafing out this week as well as some veronica I had bought last year. Also, in that larger pail, I have no idea what is actually growing in it. It's right next to the coneflower and I don't know if it is some type of weed I've never seen or what. I left it in there because it started last year during the fall after the seed was collected. So I figured if it made it through winter, which it has, maybe when the coneflower came back I would know for sure. Well I don't. It's not a coneflower and it does not behave like gaillardia so Istill don't have a clue what it is yet.

Thumb of 2016-03-06/KarenHolt/0162d8

My mother of pearl poppy emerging.

There is more coming on like my coneflowers, tomatoes, peppers, and so forth. Most is veggies. This week should bring on more. I did see that the bronzed beauty calendula and kablouna calendula are getting bigger. I am just getting more and more excited. Our corn hasn't come up yet. We direct sowed that last weekend. Anticipation is killing me, lol.

Salvia and Basil can be as slow as Hibiscus to emerge , The older they get , the bigger the root , the earlier they will emerge (that does not apply from seeds though does it )
Karen , your seedlings all look pretty good , A few seedlings though ,, Only gets my anticipation going to overwhelming ,
Here are some wild yellow and a wild all pink Mimulus ,, A water plant , of sorts ,
Photo not great , The seeds of these are as small and smaller than fern spores

The purple ruffles you gave me sprouted yesterday. They are so cute. 9 have germinated so far. We are supposed to have rain tomorrow. It's coming. The skies went gray today. So it'll be a couple of days before I can see any more progress. But the temperature is holding well.

Karen I hope they do well for you , if they get large enough , you might try a few as a perennial . Only a few Basil actually seed true ,
I believe those are the last of some commercial seed , if their from my garden , It is difficult to say what they will look like ,
That is why I like Feedback , I learn that way also Thank You!

I'm sure they are going to be fine. I would like to make a perennial out of them if possible. The sweet basil I grew last year grew to about 3 ft at the least. The stalk was more of a trunk so I thought I would try the purple ruffles there and see what happens. If it will overwinter here, I'm happy.

I came to the conclusion my Salvia seeds had dried out , most of them anyway ,
I will take all the remaining and put them in a pan type tray to see if I get any ,,
Then new seeds if I do ,
Others all seem pretty good , the seeds ,
All I got from here in the swap have all grown so far ,
My biggest concern is enough space and pots ,, goodness ,
I am going to try a stack garden if I ever get to that ,
If I ever get my grinder gears , I will be making compost out of everything I can think of that is not poison ,
I am very hopeful Garden viewer ,,
always like ,, I can grow those , and how come mine never look that good ,, That is the way I sound looking at gardens ,,

Jim, I considered a stacking garden, too. It might work best for herbs and short flowers.

...or, in my case, maybe I can transfer my strawberries to it and that will free up nearly an entire garden bed for me...

DnD I was giving that some thought for texture and look , ideas ,, Then the effort ,, takes some considering ,, Besides that, there is the final enjoyment of about 3 to 4 times the number of plants in the space allowed , it is tempting to say the least ,

Hugelkulture , article page home , this site , I use to do a similar , I would dig a trench ,, throw large plant limbs and clean paper and then food waste until it got full ,, Grew huge worms and good tomatoes ,

Jim, I'm glad you brought it up. Thanks to your post, I'm thinking about it again and I really think I'm going to reclaim that 4x4 garden bed, pulling the strawberries out and putting them in a 4-5 tier stacked pot.

Right now they are a big, 4x4 mat of leaves. Considering I need a LOT more space for all my veggies and daylilies...yeah. Thanks, Jim!

DnD Hilarious! I'm an Instigator Blinking more room for plants is a good thing I agree
I only have a few Ozark strawberry plants , I set them in the wrong place so I moved them last fall , I use to have a giant shade type at the place I lived a few daces ago ,
All worked well ..

Blooms are beginning here this week and that is hopeful of good weather or warmer anyway Sighing!
