I got this from a garden show last March 2012, called Hoya kerrii variegata, got enthralled by the heart shaped succulent leaves. At first I saw there was a new little leaf coming out, then it dried off..Now that the weather has started to warm up, it has started another new leaf and this one looks more robust..which makes me really happy Hurray! A good sign it has acclimated now in its location indoors near our west facing windows. So when do Hoyas start making blooms?

Here is the photo of the tiny new leaf:

I am glad this plant has been trained to grow in a loop...looks organized Big Grin

Lovely plant tarev! I have the regular green H. kerrii and it usually blooms in March and April but so far this year ... not one bloom! Glare I moved about five months ago and I'm hoping it's just pouting because of it's new location. I have it hanging in a tree off my deck so it might not be getting quite enough light.

Thanks Lin! I am observing this plant as it goes..I see something else developing on another node..not sure if it's a leaf or the peduncle. Hey who knows maybe your plant is just adjusting too as you said! Our plants have their mini-tantrums Hilarious!
Oh, I hope the light that this one gets is enough for it..it is near the west facing windows but it does get just dappled light as the Poplar city trees are casting shadows..which is good for us, cools down the house. Smiling

I think your location is good ... don't want it to get too much direct sun which would scorch the leaves. Keep us posted on whether the new growth is a peduncle or new leaf.

Had finished dental appt this morning and went by the nearby Raley's supermarket..and found this wonderful Hoya. It will be a lovely complement to my Hoya kerrii variegata. At $8.99 it is definitely coming home with me Big Grin

Now, the tag on the plant says Generic Hoya, so it is a noid.. Rolling my eyes. Does anyone recognize this? I looked on some internet sites..the nearest one that seems to match is Hoya incrassata albomarginate. Most other photos I see online are just showing the blooms, since this one has no blooms yet, my only identifier are the leaves which are a bit rigid succulent and variegated, but not as thick as the leaves of Hoya kerrii. There were some leaves showing all off white color, not sure if it was due to its being in too much shade, or it is the way it grows out first.

Now am looking for a nice area to hang it Big Grin

tarev: Your new addition is absolutely beautiful ... it may be one of the Hoya carnosa clan, possibly H. carnosa 'Tricolor', commonly called "Krimson Queen" Hoya:

This is a Hoya I have blooming now. I got this one as a cutting in a trade back in 2006 or 2007 and was told it was a carnosa, but it seems to be a Hoya pubicalyx:

Lovely Hoyas Lin Lovey dubby I am still a newbie with Hoyas. So far my Hoya kerrii is still indoors on a table, it seems heavier. While the one I got today I have put with the orchids outdoors but inside the growcamp.

Do you put your Hoyas indoors when it is cooler during winter time or just leave them outdoors? That is the next thing I will have to observe later on, if I can leave it in the growcamp or have to move it back in. We have no snow but have occasional rainstorms in winter.

Thanks tarev! Most of my plants stay outside year round except for the orchids and a couple of hoyas which I bring in when temp's are predicted to drop below @ 50ºF. We have frost and occasional freezes here in my part of Florida and the winters of 2009 and 2010 were extremely cold with quite a few nights of temp's in the mid and upper 20's!! I lost a lot of plants those two winters ... some that I'd had for 30+ years. Sad I lost a huge Hoya Iris Marie and another quite large Hoya imperialis that I had never gotten the chance to see bloom. When I moved about 6 months ago I decided to downsize with plants so I gave many of them away to neighbors and friends.

Hello all,

Hoya's are one of my favorite plants if not my favorite,it's to tough a call between hoya's,epi's and rhipsalis. Shrug! Then of course there's my holiday cactus & a few succulents!!! Whistling

Tarev, I have the plant in your picture and your's is a beauty!!! When i purchased mine it had been trained on a trellis.I am partial to HB's.The process of training the Hoya carnosa 'krimson Queen' or tri-color left a lot of the older leaves with scar's & it was out growing it's trellis so i took it off.Now i'm waiting on new stems to grow it was kept cut back to only 4 long running stems,it has 2 or 3 new ones now.The new growth on it is pink and some leaves are completely white.I love this hoya and the 'krimson princess'or rubra. The rubra is opposite the tri-color with the green on the leaves edges & white in middle.
The last picture is of my Hoya carnosa 'krimson princess'

Hello all,

We have just had a few days of summer storms.I have a Hoya compacta,it is hanging outside and was left out during a couple days of off & on heavy rains. The sun is shining today and the temps are suppose to be in the low 80's (we are having a cold front) temps have been in the 90's.

Thumb of 2012-05-10/jojoe/4da1f2

I also have a Hoya compacta varagate, that is a small plant that wasn't left outside.
I am hoping someone can tell me the water needs of these 2 varieties of Hoya.I know some don't like being soaked, but with the one being outside it will dry faster.

If anyone can help me with the watering do & don't of these 2 and also of the Hoya curtissi.I also brought the H.curtissi inside.
Thumb of 2012-05-10/jojoe/742547
the only picture i could find of the little one was of them both. Confused

Thumb of 2012-05-10/jojoe/e42add

The H. curtissi sits safely on the back of the family cat.LOL

thanks for any advice i can get aout the differences in the hoya's watering needs!!!! I tip my hat to you.

Mmm - your compacta is really nice. I lost a really big one when I set it outside because of mealy bugs - and then it froze. Grrrr....

When I was growing it, I felt like it was a plastic plant; for about 3 years I had NO growth on it whatsoever. Then I read that it probably liked more water and more light than I was giving it, so I moved it to a bright eastern window and began watering it as soon as it got dry - perhaps every 10 days or so, but I was in a pretty humid climate. It started some new growth soon after, but died soon after that. Thumbs down So, I guess my advice would be to keep it a little on the dry side, but not for long.

HTH

My Hoya carnosa 'Krimson Queen' seems finally acclimated in its present location in the Growcamp..saw some new leaves growing, and I now see the pinkish hue on some leaves: Hurray! I hope I can see some blooms soon Whistling

Different hoyas have their own blooming times....and many bloom when they just feel like it. Whistling

I had a huge compacta once and the only way I could get rid of the mealie bugs INSIDE the leaves was to dunk the whole blinking plant in a tub of mildly soapy water (something mild like Joy or Dove...NOT Ultras and NOT antibacterial). It worked like a charm. I use BATS systemic in my greenhouse which takes care of the brats!!!!

Closed plastic bags work for many to propagate...they don't work for me because of our relatively high humidity.

There is a wonderful bunch of tutorials/videos done by Doug Chamberlain who lives in Vermont...on You Tube.... Also a thread on his videos on the Hooked on Hoya Cubit. Green Grin!
It's all about choices.

My Hoya polyneura has peduncles what's an estimated time from this stage to full bloom?Either on this plant or Hoya's in general. Or does anyone know a good site i can go to and get good reliable information on Hoya's? I have found some good ones & i have been to some that even I (being fairly new with Hoya's) can tell the information is (ify) contradicts some of what i know.
