I’m just started to have orchids and really like it. I have this phar and on the stem it looks like it’s going to be a baby. What do I do? can I stay there or do I need to cut the stem off. Thank you very much!
Shelley Confused Thank You!

Your Phalaenopsis does indeed have a "new arrival", called a keiki. Keiki is Hawaiian for baby I think. I don't grow many Phal. but have had numerous keiki. The rule of thumb as I understand it is to wait until the keiki has two or more roots and those roots are at least 2" long. You can then cut the flower/keiki stem just below the keiki, and pot up the new arrival.

I have also tied a bit of sphagnum around the stem where the keiki bottom is attached and kept it
a little damp to speed things up...when the roots get visible through the moss, then I detach it.

Thanks a lot, Lindsey and Dr. Dawg! I think it was a baby, but I wasn’t sure. I’ll get the moss and tie it around the stem. Thank you.
Thank You!
