I'm looking for sources of Squaw Potato seeds and wild onion seed from different locations.

I'm also trying to identify a plant that when the leaves are eaten raw acts as an antidiarrheal, but, when drinking the juice of boiled leaves, it's a "powerful" laxative. A Marine Gunnery Sergeant at Camp Pendleton showed us the plant while some of us non-Marines non-Navy were going through SERE training.

Welcome. Welcome!
There may be other plants but I know of one that fits your anti-diarrhea/laxative; Wild Strawberry also called Woodland Strawberry.

Some plants share common names. The Squaw Potato may be Perideridia oregana.

Dear Mr. or Ms. Greene,

Thank you for the quick reply.

Might the Alpine Strawberry have been in bloom during February/March in southern California? That's the time frame I learned about Alpine Strawberry.

Respectfully,

CG Bob

It's just plain 'greene'; my real name is Mary but that's boring.

I've no idea about the bloom time but we have members in the southern California area. Looking at the ATP Members Map...
I recognize the name. Maybe @risingcreek can tell you when this plant blooms in your area. (? Shrug! )

Dear Miss Mary,

You're from the part of the country that understands how I was raised up to be respectful, and why I will address you as Miss Marry, though it might be a bit premature to do so. It's all I've got not knowing, nor needing to know, your family name.

Besides, people can be boring, but not names. You don't sound boring at all.

I'll ask Miss Kaycee and reference/include your message.

Respectfully,

CG Bob

Thank you, CGBob.
Here on ATP when you put the @ symbol in front of a person's screen name they will receive a message and (as soon as they are able) they will come to the thread to give an answer if they can. It only works with screen names so, like, you could not put the @ in front of Mary or Miss Mary.

Anyway, I respect the way you were brought up and I appreciate that you want to call me Mary, but in truth I really prefer the name greene, so greene is what I answer to here on ATP. Thank You!

Dear Miss Greene,

As you requested, but with a Capital "G" as it's your name. If that messes with the mail systems mind I'll have to find a mirror and convince myself to to get over it and learn the SMS way of doing things.

Respectfully

CG Bob

Whoa! I'm not a "Miss" and my chosen screen name is "greene"...that is my preference, so if you please...respect my choice of names. I respect that your screen name is GCBob. Folks who post on public sites such as this one like to keep some amount of anonymity. I use a generic gender-neutral name on purpose.

I have answered your original question to the best of my ability. Hope to see you on many other forums here on ATP.
Folks here are a nice bunch...even if they are a bit informal. Thumbs up

Dear greene,

Though I feel a ghostly ruler smacking my writing hand knuckles...

My "real" "allthingsplants" user name is 'CG Bob', not CGBob. "allthingsplants" compacted it. I'd thought that "allthingsplants" might have done something to your user name also.

Now I know better and will respect your wish. I apologize for my misunderstanding.

I got my start in what was to become SMS texting doing OTO (Operator To Operator), messages via radio telepype in the 1960's, which was all upper case. 50 years old habits are hard to break.

Apologetically,

CG Bob
