I heard from some of our family here...if you feed them they will bloom. I wish I'd taken a picture of the little rooted cutting in the huge pot when I first put him there back in May or June...but here's the 'after' taken tonight (been on manic bloom drive since the 1st)

You can’t begin to make a difference!” After a few moments thought, she bent down, picked up another starfish & hurled it as far as she could into the ocean. What would YOU attempt if you KNEW you wouldn't fail?

WOW! That is a VERY deep question.
I always fear failing at something I was trying to do. Some grand idea....
My life-long fear.....to do something wrong and have to live with the consequences--Or try something --AND fail.

Of course--it all depends on what I was trying to do---What was expected of me....and....did I even come close to those expectations...
Of course--most of "those expectations" were my own....NOT someone elses..

Life can be hard when you have no one to support your ideas.

@gitagal - did you see the pics of your brugs I posted above? In response to your post above...once we're adults and our children are grown the only expectations we need to be concerned about (without sounding overtly selfish) are our own of ourselves IMHO. I saw the shirt below the other night and I thought..."that's it...exactly!!!"

Chantelle---
Thanks for your reply on this "deep" question.

I have a hard time "being "my own hero" as I always seek other's approvals and praise. Then I feel like i have accomplished something worthwhile.

Some harsh words in the past have really thrown me off this topic.
I think you know what I am referring to....It really derailed me!
By now--I don't really give a hoot about it all...

Your Brugs look great. How do you plan to overwinter them?
Can I help you on some way???
I chopped both mine down, took a few stem-cuttings-- and dug them out of their huge pots and re-potted them in smaller than "huge" pots. They will spend the winter in my cool, dark shop--with only the shop-lights on---if I remember it. I have to--as my 3 Clivias also reside in this cool/dark Shop.
They have always come through it all w/flying colors.

OK! I KNOW i am also somewhat dysfunctional.
BUT--It makes me see other people under a different light--as I also understand myself and WHY I do what i do--or think what i think b/c of it.

Happy Holloween to you all with kiddles that will enjoy it. BOOOO G.

Those bouquets are nice! I love the idea of flower arranging, but never seem to make time to do it. It would be nice to have fresh flowers in the house. My grandmother always had something from her garden sitting on the table or the window sill.

I headed out this afternoon camera in hand, but the fall colors just aren't very vibrant here this year.

Here is a floribunda rose that blooms off and on all summer and into fall.

I think the leaves started drying before they could color well. My swamp maple is dull, the ash has lost all its leaves already, norway maple not far behind: my backyard view isn't too inspiring this year.
Plant it and they will come.

We have the same thing here. The most vibrant colors seem to be in yards where they may have been watered. Got to get a pic of my Red Maple it is spectacular.

Pretty photos! Love those beautiful purple berries, Terri!

The foliage is a bit disappointing this year. Leaves are falling off before their colors turn. Blinking

Not much is going on in my garden. Brug 'Maya' still has dozens of flowers, and the flowers are still fragrant. I will let it finish blooming and then take cuttings.

The Abutilon is also hanging on. I am just waiting for it to shed all its leaves before moving it to the garage for winter.

The big Maya is still not quite done with blooming. Athough the flowers have been damaged a bit by the low temperatures, I can still smell the fragrance when I walk past them. This is the first time I have kept a brug in such a late time of the year. The interesting thing is that the flowers last about 2 weeks longer in this kind of cold weather than they do in the hot summer.

Just a few more days. I will take cuttings.

Here is the Maya today.

donner--SOI beautiful!!!
Is this Maya from a cutting start last summer--or os it older?
Only YOU could do all this in one year!

I have my 2 Mayas--all cut back--and in the basement/Shop for the winter.
The Dr. Seuss is also down there--not a cutting--but the cut back whole thing.
They are all looking Ok and growing leaves at the tops.

I am, impatiently, waiting for the big seed-p0ds on my Moon Flower Vine to
mature so I can cur them off. They are supposed to turn like....woody--
then they can be picked.
Gonna have a lot of Moon Flower seeds-
I may start some for the spring swap. Gita
