I agree They both sound worth visiting. Holly has mentioned returning to Fallingwater when the Rhododendrons and Azaleas are in bloom.

Funny you should mention Fallingwater, Ric. We've scheduled a trip to visit first week in June. I got inspired after reading T. C. Boyle's "The Women," a novel about Frank Lloyd Wright's wives/mistresses.
Dumbarton Oaks and Hillwood are great spots to visit and both are about 10 minutes away from me.

I've been to Falling Water three times over the years. Absolutely love that place!

Maybe we can coordinate some visits to these places in the spring and/or summer months.

Falling Water didn't sound familiar so I just looked it up. Of course!!!! The Frank Lloyd house!

I'd love a group visit to a public garden!

I agree Sounds like a great idea!

So proud of myself--I took advantage of the gorgeous weather today to get out in the garden and do some cutting back. Found *6* praying mantis egg cases!! Left them of course --although somehow they never feast on the European paper wasps the way I wish they would--it's always the butterflies and their caterpillars. Glare Anyway, happy to share the egg cases with other MAG-ers if anyone is interested!

Also found *lots* of early spring growth. In addition to the daffodils, crocuses, hyacinth, and allium shooting up, I discovered I have lots of monarda, yarrow, sedum, sage, penstemon, heuchera and other things putting out new basal growth! The lilac buds are also fat and pink and look like they want to open soon. And I have some dianthus in bloom as well as some borage, parsley, and lots of fennel that are still green and growing. The yard seems to think it's late March!!
What if it never really gets very cold this winter? Blinking

There were daffodils in full bloom at the Takoma Park farmers market today. I was so surprised to see that they were all blooming, not just one or two super early bulbs.

Like the idea of coordinating garden excursions.
Reading "Tulipmania," and finding much of it slow going. Financial part is interesting. Imagine selling your property for a few touted bulbs.
Attn Downton Abbey fans: NY Times had special section, "Downton Times." Sepia-tone photos, Brit-speak reporting. Publicity stunt but a clever one.

I have heard that Downton Abby is good but haven't had a chance to watch any if it.

If any of you are Benedict Cumberbatch fans, a new episode of his Sherlock series just aired. It may be on pbs.org.

Lisa, if you haven't seen them yet, previous seasons of Sherlock are now on Netflix. They're excellent!

Each episode is around 90 minutes long, so they're more like mini movies.

The newest episode will be streaming on pbs.org in about a week.

Rolling on the floor laughing I just got really, really excited thinking about my trip to the arboretum.

No, not because of the trees or the bonsai I'm going to see, but the DC Costco that's just down the street from the arboretrum! Hilarious!

Costcos in MD can't sell alcohol, but this one in DC sure does! And I just ran out of Grand Marnier! Thumbs up

Farmers at my local Farmers Market are all a twitter re our weird weather mix-up.
