I have Microsoft "office" that came with my computer. Is there any program in there that will alphabetize a list I make? I want to arrange my recipes in the book I made so I don't have to keep going through the pages and without having to take everything out and arrange myself alphabetically? Some of my pages have recipes on both sides of the paper, and I don't want to have to redo a majority of them.

All I want to be able to do is have the listing in the front of my cookbook alphabetically.

What kind of a document is your list? Is it a Word document or a spreadsheet? I like using spreadsheets myself. They're so easy to sort and search.

Oh, wait. In re-readng your post, it sounds like you haven't created your list yet?

No, I have not. If one of those programs would alphabetize, it would be great.

I'm assuming your "Office" includes Excel (the spreadsheet program)? I use that for just about everything! It's great for lists.

That's probably the easiest way to make a list that you can sort. Just remember, if you put information in more than one column, you need to select ALL the columns in order to get everything to sort together. I'd be happy to help if you're not all that familiar with using spreadsheets. Smiling It's really pretty easy.

I'd put recipe name and the page number. I'd want to sort it alphabetically by the name, not numerically.

If I were doing it, I'd put the recipe name in one column (column a), and the page number in the next column. Then, when you want to sort it alphabetically by name, you'd highlight both columns. Then you go to the "Data" pull down menu and select "sort by column A". Don't know what version of Office you have; that's how it works in the one I have.

Just realized that this feature is only available in newer versions of word.

Heh, and when all else fails, there's always Open Office. Which has the benefit of being free. Smiling

I did it in Excel. Thanks for the info. It came out perfect. Only thing I should have changed was make the font a little bigger.

If you select whole columns at a time or even the whole document, you can make a mass change to the font size that way.

Yes, but I didn't see that the font was small till it started to print. It will be ok this way. At least I won't have to flip through 80 pages for what I want. :>)
