Donald, just so you know, I did not register Highland Tower. Guess the way I put it, it kind of sounds like I did, but it is not one of mine. Anyway, here is one more I thought of that is a gold/yellow. ARC OF GOLD, which is a very fast increaser and prolific bloomer.

Yes, I just read Highland Tower as one of yours :). I never even checked the hybridizer name when I was looking at the stats in the db Smiling .

Must mention Jim Murphy's fabulous 'Celebrating Gold' here! It has a very long bloom period ( starts rather late, usually around the end of July here) but blooms for about 6 weeks. Fabulous garden plant with tall, sturdy scapes, super bud count, and the color stands out across the garden. It is also a vigorous increaser in this climate - but it was hybridized about 2 hours from here. Probably wouldn't do as well in the deep south but should do well across many parts of the country. One of my favorites!

I'd forgotten about Celebrating Gold. It was actually already on the wish list and I'd forgotten. It's nice to have the color verified by someone who has seen it. I'm growing several from Reed and Murphy. So far they seem to be doing well, but some are new from last spring. I guess in 2-3 years I'll know if they can handle the conditions here. Not a lot of daylilies grown in my area and that's makes it a trial and error situation.

Hello Donald. Gold is a colour I sought once. It is why I have so many 'yellows'. Sometimes I wonder about their goldness. Visitors just see yellow, which drives me barmy. As you noted, 'yellows' are a pain to photograph but these are the ones I have.

YELLOW GOLD

A thought has occurred to me that I haven't got a proper yellow in the garden. I have bypassed them in search of Eldorado!
The problem is that when you are young your life it is ruined by your parents. When you are older it is ruined by your children.

Those 1st three and the 5th one are pegging the color I'm looking for in a tallish spider or UF. I'm getting a good list via this thread, so I can get serious about locating one to try.

It's odd about the availability of yellow daylilies. They would seem to be commonly available, but when I've explored some, they really weren't widely offered. Also, there really is a lot of variation in the colors yellow incorporates. From the green ones, the near whites, the canary and butter yellows and those that go from gold to near orange without being full on orange. Most of those I've picked up have an eye or marking. I've been watching for Small World Sweet Shining Yellow for one that is a clean yellow. Just yellow, yellow, yellow. It's been easier to acquire pinks and lavenders. 'Course they have to make my list. I'm pretty good at keeping it at under a 100.

What about the daylilies Mary's Gold or Cheddar Cheese . One of my favourite colors is actually "school bus yellow" . I painted my kitchen that color I like it so much ! I recall a couple of years ago wanting to add some purple daylilies to my gardens .......so with that in mind I went and visited a daylily nursery .....I wandered and wandered looking for those purples that I wanted to add but kept being drawn back to two separate daylilies that were "school bus yellow" . I never did get those purples ......but I grow both Mary's Gold and "Cheddar Cheese in my gardens ......People spot them from across the yard and are drawn to them too......

Yes, the colors are right. They just are the fuller form. I'm wanting a spider or UF or one that veers in that direction. I've noted Mary's Gold as being a color match every time someone posts a photo. A blooming clump just has to be a bright spot.

Julie, to me Jim Murphy's "Celebrating Gold " looks more peachy than gold to me at least on my monitor and compared to other pics shown here . Lovely plant , just not what I would call gold .

It is totally not peachy, as I don't care for the peachy ones. It is one of the truer gold colors that grows here.

Needrain , are you looking for an older or a newer cultivar? I grow Rainbow Gold 30 " tall with an 8 " bloom which is an older daylily in this color and a more recent introduction is Jack and the Beanstalk a Gossard UF cascade that can grow up to 6 feet tall . Another of my fav's as I really really love tall daylilies so the height combined with the Uf form ......it's a keeper in my book LOL! . JATB has a very strong scape and a 9 inch bloom. Both pics are in the database here . Sorry I dont have access to those pics of mine at the moment .

oops I stand corrected ....I found one of my Rainbow Gold pics

Another possibility could be " Let the Games Begin" 48" tall 5.5 inch bloom by Schwartz

And yet another choice Goldner's "Sears Tower" . This one is a touch more yellowish than the others but still in the gold tone and tall again registered at 72 inches with a 7 inch bloom
.

Judy Davisson's amazing WIGGLY PIGGLY, WORKING OVERTIME and MISS GOLDIE GOLD DIGGER are all wonderful golds with HUGE blooms on tall, sturdy, well-branched scapes. Curt Hanson's unusual and distinctive GOLDMAN SACKED US has smaller blooms than those I just mentioned but it is also tall with incredible scapes. I love yellow daylilies!

@signet Thanks Heather, age doesn't matter if it meets my criteria. I think gardeners appreciate any plant that performs successfully. If they are inclined to enter shows or hybridize, then the time of introduction may come into play, especially if there have been improvements like stronger scapes, longer bloom season, better substance - all that sort of thing. Those are desirable traits, but if an older plant works, it works. I've run across 'Jack and the Beanstalk' and 'Sears Tower'. I think they might be too tall to work here. My spot of the world is very windy - not breezy, windy. More often than not. I've acquired some last year that get up in the mid 50" height range, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed they can handle the wind. Height has been a criteria that has kept many a nice daylily off my wish list. I don't want them short, but I don't trust them too tall either. The other two you've listed would definitely be possibilities. Thanks. I'm happy to be turning up some more choices than I had.

Not a UF, but I'll show it anyways since I think it may be the color you are looking for.

Definitely looks looks like the color. Nice. If I weren't naturally restricted by water, weather, and deer there would probably be a lot of hems growing around the place!

@DogsNDaylilies good list. I'm guessing that it is 'Reete Petite' ? I couldn't find it in the database as 'Reese Petite'.

'Pray For Rain' is currently on the LA. I think I may bid on it Smiling Too tempting.
