Glad to see this tip. I used to plant beans that way, using a piece of pvc pipe, drop a bean in the hole, skooch the hole closed, drop another, etc. I even had a funnel at the top end to make it easier to hit the pipe hole.

Good going, Junebug!

Great idea.
Reminds me of this little You Tube video someone sent to me. It's a little hillbilly but kinda cute.

Nice!

I may try a spoonfull of vermiculite, then the seed, then more vermiculite.

If you don't want to chop up a hose, clear Tygon tubing is usually sold by the foot in hardware stores.

I plant out seedling from inserts or small pots without bending by using a short-handled spade with a narrow blade (trenching spade or "sharpshooter spade").

It's handy for digging the hole, then I put the seedling and root ball onto the spade, position the spade beside the hole, and then tilt it untill the seedling slides in.

I can nudge the seedling upright against one wall of the hole using the spade.

Then I use the spade to push soil aginst the root ball until it's fixed in place, and firm down around it.

It also provides several extra feet of "reach", so even limber folks might consider using it!

There ya go, Junebug...then you can proudly hang it on the side of your tool shed, where all can admire it and wonder what it is! Great conversation piece, too, eh!?
