Thread OP

Can anyone tell me where the hybridizer P. Fass was located in the U.S.A. I am trying to determine what zone this hybridzer was in and whether that is the reason the plants I have from this hybridizer increase so slowly . I am a zone 6a .

Signet - Peter Fass info might be found here in this pdf file:

Read the section "Daylily Founders". Sounds like he lived and hybridized in Long Island, but I didn't read all the info.

The hybridizer Fass is recorded as Philip Fass of Cedar Falls, Iowa.

The hybridizer Fass-P is recorded as Peter Fass of Long Island New York.

The information above came from the AHS file of hybridizers.

Daylilies registered by Fass appear to begin in 2014.

Daylilies registered by Fass-P appear to begin in 1951.

To find cultivars registered by hybridizer go to http://daylilydatabase.org/
There are two fields, cultivar name and hybridizer. Type the name of the hybridizer into the hybridizer field and click on the search button.

Maurice: A question like this came up the other day. I know you can go to the AHS database and pull up daylilies by hybridizer name - BUT - where is the "AHS Hydridizers File" you speak about that gives where they live? Do you have a link for that or am I missing something on the regular search feature link I use ? ...........Maryl

The listing of hybridizer names, other related information and abbreviations is on the AHS membership portal at http://www.daylilynetwork.org/

After an AHS member logs into the portal then one of the choices at the top of the page is a pop-down menu under AHS Files. On that menu choose Administrative Files.

On the Administrative Files page, part way down the page the following is displayed,

AHS Hybridizer/ Registrant list ( updated Nov 2014) - download either Excel or PDF
•Excel Format ( for sorting)
•PDF Format

One can choose either type of file (excel or pdf) and download a copy by clicking on your choice.

ah so you have to be a member of the AHS to access that info . that sucks ! should be available to all .

I know I have tried numerous times ( over at least 100 times) to just type in a hybridizer's name so that all their cultivars are listed . It doesn't work . Many times even typing in a name of a cultivar doesn't work either.I don't wish to be negative but I don't find the AHS database to be particularly helpful . It is really quite inefficient I find . Sure wish Tinker's was still available .

Before there was an online AHS registration database one had to buy the printed versions of the registration information. It required many booklets to cover all the registered daylilies and there were printed updates, if not every year then every few years. The hybridizer name abbreviations were only in the booklets.

If you type the first few letters of a hybridizer's last name it will display all the registered cultivars that match. Typing in Fass will display all daylilies registered by Fass-P., Fass-Viette, Fass, Fass-Rasmussen and Wayman-Fass. The total is 138 daylilies. That is with the [Anywhere in Name] choice selected.

Typing in Fass with the [Beginning of Name] choice selected displays 137 registered daylilies - the one dropped is Wayman-Fass.

Typing in Fass with the [End of Name] choice selected displays just 12 records - only those for Fass

Typing in Fass-P. (with the period) with the [End of Name] choice displays 117 daylilies - only those for Fass-P.

Typing in Fass-P. or Fass-P (without the period) with the [Beginning of Name] choice selected displays 117 daylilies - only those for Fass-P

Typing in Fass- with the [Beginning of Name] choice selected displays 126 daylilies. Those are 117 for Fass-P, 8 for Fass-Viette, and 1 for Fass-Rasmussen

Typing in Fass-R with the [Beginning of Name] choice selected displays 1 daylily for Fass-Rasmussen

Typing in Fass-V with the [Beginning of Name] choice selected displays 8 daylilies for Fass-Viette

Typing in -Fass with the [End of Name] choice selected displays 1 daylily for Wayman-Fass

Sometimes it is better to type in less than the full name of a cultivar or a hybridizer (just the first few letters that may be unique to that cultivar or hybridizer) since one cannot be certain what punctuation was included in the name when it was registered and entered in the database and a search may require an exact match to what one types in the field.

Thank you Maurice for the answer to my question: One must be a member of the AHS to access the hybridizer's town of registration...............Maryl
