gardenglassgems said:Thank you Rick and Hank, I will look the seeds over better with a magnifying glass. I will plant the good seeds 3/4 to 1" deep in potting mix The kind of mix I have is Miracle Grow. Thank you everyone for all your help. I will let you know if I find more good seeds when I get a chance to check them.

Don't plant just the good seeds...plant the chaff too!

I agree One pot with the good looking seed, and one with the chaffy looking ones. As I recall many years ago I had an asiatic cross that had very small chaffy looking seed. Could not make out any embryos, and the seeds were all very thin. Tossed them all in a pot and in a few weeks it looked like I had planted a lawn. You never know...

3/4 to 1 inch deep is too deep also. Try and keep it around 1/2 inch or a little less. If you can, place a small board or tile over the top of the pot to help conserve surface moisture. Place in bright light or under light when first 2 or 3 pop up. Smiling

Jeanne, did you mean to ask about lily seeds here (you asked about iris seeds)? If so then follow Lorn's recommendation for about 1/2 inch deep. Whistling

Connie, I am sorry. I did mean Lily seeds. They are mostly paper thin so I will plant the ones with embryo in one pot and the chaff ones in another.

Thanks all for you great advice. I will let you know the outcome when it happens or doesn't happen.

No problem, Jeanne! It's what happens when spring is not far off and our heads are spinning thinking about all the different seeds we want to start and how to start them!

Good luck with your lily seeds!
