@JRsbugs. I have a 700 gallon water holding pond in my greenhouse. Last night I went out to check it and saw this insect swimming around. I caught it and have photographed it in a dish of water. I've never seen anything like this, and imagine it is going to transform itself into something different that I might know. Any ideas?

Here's a damselfly nymph that looks similar. http://www.wattylereducation.i...

That was fast! It does look like the damselfly nypmh. Sounds like they are ok to leave, so I'll stick him back into the tank. I have goldfish, water snails and a few different water plants in there, and it's always interesting to see what shows up. The vents are open year round, and the door is open most of the summer, so a lot of different things appear inside. Thank You!

I agree, it's a damselfly larvae. There's two as opposed to three tail 'fins', I'm not sure if the difference is between male and female

There's a photo of an unidentified one with a 'forked tail'

Interesting links, Janet. Thank You! I put him back into the tank. I hope he's finding enough food in there. During the summer there were various water spiders and odd mites and things, so they are probably still in there in some form.
