Oddly I've never found a seedling here, but otherwise they grow well with no effort.

I found by accident how easily pieces of root grow into new plants. I moved one and it kept coming back. It was the source of several trades after that- it was a bad spot for it because it covered the side walk, so every couple of years somebody got a nice bleeding heart. That went on for several years, but I finally got all the root that last time.

Great photos, Leon! I especially love seeing the foliage on that first pic.

Bleeding hearts are my favorite shade plants, although I have a fairly large hosta collection, and also quite a few martagon lilies. I have 5 plants of the pink species, plus one white plant that sported from one of the pink plants. I also have 'Gold Heart' ( gold foliage, pink flowers). All of my bleeding heart are in shade and never go dormant... foliage stays lush.

Thumb of 2016-01-30/alwaysbehindMN/065139 I was actually taking a photo of the European ginger, but the bleeding heart scape snuck into the picture and really added some extra interest, I thought!
