Thanks for all the great pictures Paul, Rose, CS, Margaret and Mica. It really sets the heart a flutter seeing all those beauties. The blues really call to me but they are all wonderful. I was very excited to get Touch of Class a couple of years ago; hope mine develops into a lovely specimen like I've seen here. Love War Paint too, and Pauls Glory is a favourite. It really is interesting the changes over the season for many of the Hosta varieties; like having multiples of different plants.

I agree I agree with all the other comments. Rose, you truly make me a tad jealous. 700 varieties, I figure my 10 are very much "in the shade" Hilarious!

Thank you so much for sharing with us.

Thank You! Thank You! I am sure I will be referring to this and the other treads in the Hosta forum for inspiration as I add to my little garden.

Thank you! Has anybody ordered anything this year? I've got some ordered from Naylor Creek and a co-op on Facebook. My original plan was to keep the order light this year since I'm having shoulder surgery, but...You know how plans go!!!

I can't do pics, but I do pick up streakers whenever they are reasonable and grab my attention. I have
Justice
Galaxy
Cirrus Cloud
Powder Keg
Trails End and a few more that don't come immediately to mind.

"Streakers" is a new term for me. What are streakers? I.e., what characteristics make them streakers?

CS check out roses photos on page 7 of this thread. The leaves have streaked colors.

Thanks for pointing me to Rose's photos of streakers, Gary. They are pretty. Sounds like they are genetically unstable (likely to revert to green).

I've got a number of streaked plants I really like.

'Allegan Fog' is one that is more misty than streaked.
Thumb of 2016-01-30/ViolaAnn/b451eb

'Charlotte's Web' has a lot of stabilizion going on. Needs dividing big time; so I hope it still has streaked spots next summer.
Thumb of 2016-01-30/ViolaAnn/2e3336

'Dorset Clown' is an interesting little streaker. It's a bit faded out from too much sun as we had to remove a large ash tree to the south of it. Will find it more shade next season.
Thumb of 2016-01-30/ViolaAnn/8775a4

'Ghost Spirit' isn't really streaky, but more misty. Still interesting leaves. Last year they emerged this way and stayed that way all summer, but usually they are more white in the leaf centre when they emerge and get misty later.
Thumb of 2016-01-30/ViolaAnn/e1321b

'Ice Age Trail' used to be much more streaky. Now it's got the odd streak here and there, but is mostly a large blue hosta.
Thumb of 2016-01-30/ViolaAnn/5c5a29

'Korean Snow' is another that's really more misty than streaked.
Thumb of 2016-01-30/ViolaAnn/ce22c2

'Lakeside Mom' - probably my favourite streaker.
Thumb of 2016-01-30/ViolaAnn/466aa2

'Lakeside Reflecting Glass' - a sport of 'Lakeside Looking Glass'. This one is not quite as stable - I had a large section of it go all green last year.
Thumb of 2016-01-30/ViolaAnn/d9f35b

'Lakeside Zinger' - has a variety of streks in the leaves
Thumb of 2016-01-30/ViolaAnn/12182c

'Pewterware' - a streaked division that sported in a friend's garden. She shared a piece with me.
Thumb of 2016-01-30/ViolaAnn/8d8371

'Rainbow's End' - I think one should call this streaky
Thumb of 2016-01-30/ViolaAnn/f03f20

'Royal Mouse Ears' - has some stabilization going on. I'm not sure how long this one will stay streaked.
Thumb of 2016-01-30/ViolaAnn/f39162

seedling of 'Neat Splash' - was given the seeds. I need to divide this 2013 seedling next summer as some eyes are streakier than others.
Thumb of 2016-01-30/ViolaAnn/717343

'Spilt Milk' - streaks on "milk" through the leaves. BTW, I have a nice variegated seedling from this one.
Thumb of 2016-01-30/ViolaAnn/508384

'Viola Ann' - a streaked plant of unknown origin which was given to me in 2010 when my garden was on an Ontario Hosta Society bus tour. It's not a fast grower and one eye stabilized, but much of it remains streaky. I finally gave it a name (after me) in 2014.

Ann,

Your 'Lakeside Reflecting Glass' looks a lot better than mine! I wouldn't even consider it a streaked one now.

Here's a few more of my favorite streaked ones from early May of 2015. I do think I have better luck with the misted ones.

Montana 'Hida no Hana' I've had this one for a few years, but 2015 was the first year it screamed "Look at me!"

Some of them are SO unstable, that it likely isn't worth trying to keep them streaked after awhile. The only solace is that I received Lakeside Reflecting Glass free in exchange for letting a hosta nursery use some of my photographs. I was encouraged to choose the expensive plants if I wished. Smiling

I agree Ann. It's hard to enjoy them and see them grow if you have to split them every couple of years.

I would find the reverting very annoying, so I am thinking I will not bother to buy any of the streaked cultivars, especially since there are so many other beauties to choose from.

One of these days the hybridizes will find a way to stabilize those streaks.

Love the Rainbow's end. I will be on the lookout for one or two to add to my garden.

I will enjoy the streakers while they last. Hilarious!

Some of them seem very stable. I've not had reversion on Lakeside Mom and Rainbow's End, while I've classed it as streaked for lack of a better term, it's quite a different streaking. RE is also VERY slug resistant. Spilt Milk is another which seems very stable. And the ones that are more misted than streaked are also usually stable.

(Sorry for all the typos. I've fixed 3 and hope I got them all).

Justice is a large streaked variety. It has been in my garden for 4 years now and has shown no sign of reversion. Gunthers Prize has also been a very stable streaked one for me. It is a slow grower and late to emerge for me. It is very nice and I anxiously await it's return each year. I have two of them and both have remained stable so far. They are about 5 years old now.

I have a friend that has a solid OS Gunther's Prize. My tc plant had to be divided once for a solid clump, but it seems to be behaving now!

Margaret,

There are some (like Gunther's Prize) that are worth the struggle!

I've been cleaning my beds and can't believe how many are coming up already! I hope we don't have anymore freezing temps because I'm not going to try and cover them all!
