Martagon Lilies are a great plant for the shaded border, although they will do well in more sun as well. They bloom earlier than Asiatics, with smaller, but many Turks cap down facing flowers. They come in many colours, and have attractive whorled foliage; they can reach heights of 5 feet and will make some impressive clumps over time. They can be slower to get established and more expensive to Initially purchase, but are well worth it!l

Wow, Martagon Lilies are gorgeous! I've never seen them growing here in Florida but I see the database lists to zone 10 ... wonder how they'd fare in our heat and humidity?

They are a cold climate lily.
Some will take extremely low temperatues.
I have seedlings chilling in a styrofoam cooler in my unheated car port.

I had a feeling that was why I'd never seen them in the south. Sad

That information doesn't look correct (they are native to Eurasia). I don't know a lot about them but they are rather expensive to risk trying to find out...

They do wonderfully well here in the UK. Both the purple and the white forms are beautiful.

I love Martagons! The flowers are so cheerful and majestic in the spring gardens and the intriguing whorl of leaves add texture and height the whole season.
