I just had fun making this flowerpot. I used a normal terracotta pot and prettied it up with genuine seashells, shell chips, and sparkly beads. I painted the rim inside and out with metallic gold paint. It's very easy to do. I glued the shells on with Loctite all purpose clear caulk in the little tube, not the huge caulking gun tube! These are best as a cachepot with another smaller pot inside it. It can't be immersed in water, or used in the open outdoors. I do use them under my patio roof.

Thank you so much! Anyone can do it with a bit of time and patience. Here is another one I made earlier. It was made with shells and seafoam seaglass I beachcombed at the Glass Beach at Ft Bragg, California.

Very nice Karen! I think I have a stash of seashells from years ago somewhere out in the garage, I might have to consider making one for my sister who loves "beachy" decor.

Do it! A lot of people have shells from vacations and never use them. At least this way they can be used and enjoyed. It doesn't have to be seashells or seaglass either. It can be almost anything. Beads of all sizes work well. Some people make them out of junk costume jewelry and they turn out really pretty. They can be made of almost anything that is small. Some people make memory pots using their small pins and jewelry or buttons they've save. All button ones work well, too. Lots of us have jars or tins of old buttons. Now I think I might have to make one with my buttons!

Thanks, Marilyn. That is a favorite with me, too. Here is one I made a few years ago that I really liked. It used shells and cut up blue and white china. The thrift shops are full of cheap china if you don't have any broken dishes to use.

Thanks, Vic. That seafoam blue is my favorite seaglass color even though it's not the most rare.

Beautiful! Do you use the same process with the broken china as in the blue and white one? Love blue and white.

I'm sorry I missed this. Yes, I just crack up the dishes, using just the flat pieces. The rims and cups are too hard to use. They need to lay flat when you glue them. You also need to break the pieces in pretty small pieces in order to fit the curvature of the pot.

I just made one with some of the vintage buttons I have saved from my grandmother and mom. Here it is:

Thanks, Ibis. I had fun! There are so many things you can glue on. Here is one I made for my little greenhouse. It sits on a shelf above the little pond that has fish, water plants and snails in it. My air plants love being on that shelf! This one was made from blue glass tiles and broken, textured mirror glass.

Thank you, Vic, anyone can do this. It's not rocket science. Just grab some glue or clear caulk and find something to stick on a flower pot or old metal tray, or just about anything. Even a bunch of pennies looks nice on a pot or sphere for the garden. A lot of the garden center cement things can be mosaicked. Look for lizards, turtles, elephants, or lanterns. Once you make one item, you'll be hooked and keep on making things. They make fun little gifts to give people. Stepping stones are easy to decorate and always nice to have in your garden.

Wonderful! It's fun, and something that can be done in little bits of time. If you put on a few pieces, it's good to let the glue dry before putting on more pieces. I lay the flowerpot down in a bowl cushioned with a wash cloth or dish towel. That way you can work on it flat. Let it dry, and turn it to work on another side. If you leave it sitting upright, the pieces start sliding down. I keep an old dental pick, or toothpicks ready to clean off excess glue that squeezes out if you put too much on. I'll love seeing what you make!
