Oh my ... Alan, your Episcia's are gorgeous! I used to grow a few but haven't had Episcia's in a few years. In spring I'm going to completely re-do my terrariums and I may order a couple of Episcia's. I always grew them for the beautiful foliage ... the blooms are just "icing on the cake"!

Cute little Hoya obovata too! If you haven't already done so, you should up load some of your photo's to the ATP Plant database.

We must all be thinking of Episcia's at the same time. I'm getting ready to leave the office and took this pic of mine. This is the Pink Gator one. I am amazed by the leaves, they are shiny, metallic looking. The camera does not capture it real well. But here is my close up. I can't believe how much it has grown since the first picture up above too. I love my Alice too Steve, it's on the other side of this pot =) I put both in the same pot, and they are doing very well together.

You have come a long way baby! Episcia's are still doing very well. Look at all the babies. My question is, how do I cut these babies off and root them. In water or in AV soil, perhaps in an AV pot? It's got lots of little ones I can cut off now. Can't believe how much this has grown since I first posted back in September!!!

Good job ... pretty Episcia! I haven't grown Episcia's in a few years and don't really have a lot of experience with them but I used to just sever the little stolon from the mother plant and pot it up in it's own little container. You can also lay the little stolons onto soil where they will take root and then detach the main stem from the mother plant.. I'm not sure about water rooting, I've never tried that but they readily take root in a well draining potting medium.

I copied the following from the VioletBarn: http://www.violetbarn.com/inde...:

Because episcias freely produce stolons, which bear small plantlets at their tips, propagation is extremely easly. Keep the center four leaves of these plantlets, and keep no more than 1/2" of the stolon. Also remove any small buds or smaller plantlets from the one being rooted. If the plantlet's leaves are too large, the ends of these can be removed. Press the stolon and its base into moistened soil (firmly) and place in a closed, transparent, container. Rooted plants can be removed from the container in three weeks--or you can continue to grow them there if you need the extra humidity.

Once they begin to grow, it's best to remove the small, developing stolons, to allow the plant to more quickly, and fully, develop. After the main stem gets thicker and stronger, and the plant matures, it will bloom. At this point, we pot it into a larger pot, or basket, and allow the stolons to grow. These, too, will eventually produce blooms and stolons. Episcias grow very quickly, and can look "weedy" if unattended, so don't be afraid to remove excess stolons. When well grown, they can be some of the most colorful and rewarding plants in your collection.

Ugh, Lin - I've been stuck on Violet Barn's site for a half hour now.... have you ordered from them before or were you just providing a link?

Sheryl: I ordered from Rob's Violet's (Violet Barn) a couple of times about six years ago and felt their prices were very reasonable and that they do supply very healthy plants but just beware ... the plants are Very tiny in size, at least they were when I used to order. I found that I had trouble keeping them alive without really babying them. I've also purchased African Violets and Chritia's from Bluebird Greenhouse : http://www.bluebirdgreenhouse.... Although they don't carry Episcia's I found their plants to be decent in size, very healthy and reasonably priced. I got out of growing Gesneriads and although I haven't purchased from them, I've heard rave reviews about Lyndon Lyons Greenhouse: http://www.lyndonlyon.com/ They apparently ship decent size, healthy plants.

You are very welcome. Looking at those websites makes me think that I might want to grow an African Violet or Episcia again! Green Grin!
