I am in zone 7B. Is it cold enough for Lilacs to flower?

I have a neighbor who has huge, lovely lilacs in 7b. She had trouble with deer and rabbits eating them in the beginning. She finally got 2 large dogs that are outside most of the time, and they have kept the critters away. I'm planning to plant some because hers are doing so well.

I think it's worth a try. Are you in NC? I had a friend in Thomasville who grew beautiful lilacs.

Speak to local nursery for best choice.

I grew Miss Kim..May blooming..fragrant. Not like the blooms I remember in NY growing up...the old fashioned. Deer will eat tho.

Post what suggestions you are given if you do speak with a nursery. It would be interesting to hear what they say in W. Salem.

I am also in zone 8 and reliably get a nice flush of blooms from my lilacs. All came as suckers from my mom, so no clue what the cultivars might be. Generic white, light lavender and a darker one that my mom always called a French lilac.
