It was a 1 gallon pot, not a bad sized plant but should be more in the 12 to 15 dollars range.

I just bought two that look very much like grape expectations, but just checked the tags. They are Blackcurrent. Really like them! I'm going to make them part of my deck containers this summer and then transplant them into the ground in the fall. I think they cost either 10 or 15 dollars but don't know for sure. Bought them at our local greenhouse who doesn't put prices on the pots.

It is a very nice one. You do not see the Dolce series around here much anymore.

The Japanese Hakone grass and the Blackcurrant heuchera together look awesome, Jo Ann! I have three bunches of that grass that I over wintered in the garage. I'll have to make sure I get those two together in my flower pots!

springcolor said:My 'sweet tea' has been a good grower for many years. It gets morning sun. Just my 2 cents but I would not fertilize the Heuchera much.

I posted a topic about this fertilizer thing. Have you or anyone heard of a reason Heucheras should not be fertilized. I know the parent plant of this beginning of all these new breeds of Coral Bells were from a wild forest grown plant.

The forest is very fertile being grown under loads of leaf mold. I guess that is why they are suppose to be planted shallow and moist soil. The forest ground is moist, shady and very fertile. I wonder if that is the reason it is a guide they should not need fertilizer.

My most success has been growing them in pots. I make a mix of leaf mold and compost to plant them in the coir pots which gives them the great drainage. I have not even had okay success growing them in the ground......over gravel topped with compost and leaf mold. I am sure it is because of our rain and freeze process late fall/Winter. It is just impossible to get drainage fast enough before they are in a block of ice.

I've used a bulb fertilizer on mine, Happy Frog 5-5-5, but I have very poor soil.

I do have one native heuchera that I had ignored for years because I didn't know what it was. It picked up dramatically when I gave it a light feeding and some water during the summer months. It is sited on the north side of my house. Oh, and it is also no longer being regularly deer chomped.

All of my plants survived a long drought, so they are pretty good surviors.
I'd rather weed than dust ... the weeds stay gone longer.

Is anyone else growing the Carnival series They are doing very well for me. I planted 3 and all overwintered and came back strong this year.

I did know there was a carnival series. Home Depot sold one that was called Carnival 2 yrs ago. That one lasted one winter and did not return after the next winter. I do not think I am a good judge since most do not come back for me in the ground.

Hi all. I often check in on this forum as heucheras are my second favorite plant--daylilies count first at this stage of my gardening life!
Just wanted to say that I also planted some carnival heucheras, Watermelon and Silver Stripe and Rose Granita. One other did not survive the winter. They were full sized plants which travelled from Alberta to Nova Scotia in a suitcase in October then planted here. I am lucky any of them survived but they are all growing along with Mocha.. They are tiny right now but healthy.
