Team Garden Together, or Team Enjoyed Alone?

By Trish

Some things are meant to be shared, and some things are best enjoyed alone. Of course, those "things" are different for each of us! In your house, which team are you: Team Garden Together, or Team Enjoyed Alone?

DH and I are definitely on separate teams. He thankfully tolerates most of my experiments and even helps with the heavy labor...but there is a high usage of the "eye roll" whenever I talk about gardening!

I don't remember ever actually wanting anyone to work with me in the garden. It's always been my therapy, my own little oasis, a place to go when I needed my own space.

Maybe if I'd ever had anyone who enjoyed it as much as I did, it would have been different.

I do have a 7 year old grandson who seems quite taken with digging in the dirt, planting a seed and watching it grow. I haven't yet turned him loose with the weeds, though.

I'm with Sharon. I love my garden of peace. My only helper, my precious grandson, has now blossomed into a 13 year old teenager and no longer enjoys watching his seeds grow. But , at least he has the basics, so that when he is older, he can remember the things that mama taught him in the garden. After 40 years of marriage, my husband cuts the grass outside of my garden , while I play with my plants. He looks over and smiles at me. That's what I call gardening together, separately.

What a nice phrase! " Gardening together separately!

I completely understand why "why" of Team Enjoy Alone! While Dave and I happen to enjoy the same hobby, we aren't always together at the same time. The garden is one of the best places for quiet reflection.

For the most part I garden Alone now.
I have gone through gardening with eager tots,
and reluctant husband, to now being able to do whatever I want out there.
My late DH and my sons would do the lifting, and they always mowed grass.
My one daughter gardened as a teen, but the other would always ask if she could do the kitchen floor instead.
Now I enjoy the peace and quiet on my own, while all of them garden in their own yards.
But I am removing the grass and slowly going to rock gardens and "no mow" mix.

Well, "looking" over at Dave is fine, hope you're not "glaring" at him, he's already had to wear those anti-glare glasses this month.

Or is Dave looking for a new avatar now...?

It's my garden and no one else really wants to work in it. Others enjoy coming to see the garden, but I'm alone when it comes to taking care of it. DH sits on the bench out front and if anyone asks about, or compliments him on the yard, he likes to say, "Oh, I don't do any of it....I just pay for for it all!"
I do hope my grandson will enjoy growing some veggies this coming spring. He has had a great time putting together a Secret Garden out behind our pond.

"No glares, but maybe some eye rolls."

Hah! I assume you are doing the eye-rolling...?" (And Dave doesn't like that avatar?) Hang in there Dave...

Now back to our regularly scheduled program...

I'll apologize to Bubbles too but I will interrupt also.

I don't know Shoe. I'm a female & I see that look in Trish's eye that says, "I've just been charmed by my true love. He's given me that special look he gives no one else that let's me know I'm very special to him". Can't you see her eyes melting & that soft look upon her face? Last I heard that was called love.

There I was, just hanging out in Dave's office, watching the Little Man get into any and everything when Dave pulls out the camera and starts taking pictures. I do everything in my power to ignore and discourage him (I really hate having my pic taken), but he's making all kinds of silly faces and saying the funniest stuff that I crack.

Before I could blink, he'd done his quick keyboard magic and promptly changed my avatar! Rolling my eyes. I huffed and puffed about not liking the picture all that much, which he totally dismisses Rolling my eyes.

And here we are Lovey dubby
