Team Garden Together, or Team Enjoyed Alone?

Some things are meant to be shared, and some things are best enjoyed alone. Of course, those "things" are different for each of us! In your house, which team are you: Team Garden Together, or Team Enjoyed Alone?

Definitely me and my garden. My true luv calls sedum 'Autumn Joy' the cauliflower plant and my herbs the 'weird stuff' I put in salads and soups Big Grin He is everso my hero though when it comes to heavy labour cuz I have a bad back. He digs out the compost, moves the big containers and lays big stones where I want them. He sits out in the garden every night and just looks and watches the birds and reads and he always asks people to come by to see the garden. The most fun is when he dahlianaps me with a fake trip to the store and takes me instead to a garden or a landscape project that he saw that he thinks I might like. Methinks I am in the perfect Team Alone Lovey dubby

I am much along the lines of Dahlia's story. DH has one name for almost all the plants & it isn't even a real name. He does know many of the real names but doesn't use them unless I press him on the subject. He helps as Dahlia's beau does & suggests trips to the nursery where he patiently (& sometimes NOT so patiently) waits or helps carry plants to the car.
Funny thing though. My DH has DEFINATE ideas of what he likes & doesn't like, even down to his preferred colors of blooms on this or that.

But overall my gardening time is my own alone, down time from the outside world. That is where I gather my thoughts, solve problems, or think of nothing at all or just enjoy the beauty surrounding me.

I am one of the Alone Teams. Turns out that way since I live alone. I am also quite possessive about my gardens. What some see as weeds, I see as natives and they are welcome here. Sooo, no one can really help me garden. My grown son lives in the guest house and will help do some heavy digging or give special nutrients to some potted plants for me. For the most part, I enjoy the time I spend out there.

Occasionally son will fret at me if he thinks I am over doing it.

Just today he said he thought I have created an oasis here.

Hurray! What a sweet thing to say. But I'm sure it's true. I've seen some of the progression of Molly's garden & she has done MUCH.

Good to see you around again Molly! Thumbs up

I'm Team Alone. But it took me too many years to figure that out. I used to drag poor DH out so we could garden. I would be working away and I would turn around and he was gone. Back in the house, watching sports.

I finally had a defining moment when all became clear. I sat down next to him on the couch and said, "You know, we march to different drummers, and that is OK. If I need your strong back, I will call you on your cell."

Then when his back got old and not so strong, I hired a young back to help me with the hauling and digging on Saturdays. Now that I am retired I also call the HOA gardeners to see if they are in our area. If they are, they will come by and move something for me. Smiling
If it is not going to affect you five years from now, do not let it get you down.

Team alone for me but support too. We do the hard landscape together (both back surgeries to show for it) and sprinkler repairs etc. DH is willing to help with the mowing but doesn't do anything in my flower gardens, but has tried. I am cringing and saying "watch where you step", and would perfer he not help. Shrug! Whistling

Team alone with help for DH on heavy things or digging larger holes. He is so willing to give me a hand whenever I need it. However gardening is not his thing. Working in his shop and playing golf are his favorite pastimes.

With a lifetime of singleness, team alone comes naturally to me.. So those twenty young trees in my front yard? Planted by me and my Mantis tiller (10 in one week, a couple years ago) Those two pallets of mulch I bought one year? Spread by me. Now, I have to admit getting help to remove the hellacious holly -- my neighbor and his F250 were invaluable there.

And this year, I've finally started hiring help occasionally. Usually my budget won't support it, but my back is starting to resent the weed-whacker, But the creation part of the yard -- that's all me.

I'm going to retire and live off of my savings. Not sure what I'll do that second week.

Team Alone here, too. My DH will help with the occasional chore, such as digging or moving something heavy. He also will water my containers when I'm gone.

The best part, though, is that he takes on more of the inside chores during the spring/summer so I can spend my time working outside. He loves our garden, and is very supportive of my efforts. We try to spend at least a little time each evening sitting in our swing and enjoying the flowers, birds, butterflies......

Just me and the dogs, here. Kids from the office come to help with deep or extensive digging and moving heavy stuff, especially when the MS is flaring. I pay their textbooks or traffic tickets and they work it out in house labor when needed. Those of you who know Mamajack from Cubits know I can call on her anytime, too. Angel Most of the time I like it by myself. I get absorbed in puttering and digging and moving and rearranging and watering and pondering. Like a moving meditation. 'S wonderful. Going to need (and ask for) a lot more help in getting the Green Amber beds built. Lovey dubby But the rest will be all me.

Team alone for sure here!
I just started gardening three years ago. When the first rose bushes were planted some friends dropped by and were admiring my work. They asked DH if he helped and he said he did. When pressed on the issue he had to admit that he only brought me ice water and that was only because I was so dirty he didn't want me in the house until I was done!
