Because they do not stay attached to the parent rosette, but fall away/roll away from her. They can even land on the top side and still some how send roots out that will pull the upright and root. Amazing plants to watch.
Here is an example showing what they do.

Thanks Lynn, kinda what I thought but wasn't positive. I put the off road wheels on my walker and did a search and recovery thru out my yard and was successful in finding a few rollers that have survived my neglect. Scrounging for pots now, looked at pots online and choked on the prices.

Good morning Steve. Great news that you found some rollers hiding in your garden.
Instead of purchasing new containers look to see what you have that can be re-purposed as a plant container. Get creative. And we would love to see what you come up with.

Lynn, I know I asked you this already but I lost the info somehow. *Blush* Can you direct me to the correct DB entry for this guy? This is one that I got from you during the clinic when I was at your house. You gave me a few pea-sized rootless offsets, but my how it has grown. It seems like every day I'm finding these roller offsets where I don't expect them. I think they may take over my whole yard if I'm not vigilant. Hilarious!

Cool... thanks. I wonder why I thought it was a Hirta. Confused
Ya know what... after looking around at some pictures, I think my plant looks more like this one.

All things considered, I think I'll reclassify mine as a NOID. When in doubt, NOID it out.

I remember you got some of the 'Yellow Form'. Did you get another roller type?

Here are some photos of Jovibarba globifera subsp. allionii in their natural enrinonment.
Please, take note: not Aione, but Aisone. Aisone is an italian small village, on Maritime Alps.

2. J. allionii Soana Valley
