Hi all,

I thought that I would take advantage of your experience in purchasing, trading, planting, growing, tending, hybridizing, seeds/seedlings, pedigrees, registering, showing, awards and selling daylilies. My sweet husband is a world class programmer and is building me a new database for this new endeavor. I had started an Excel spreadsheet (which I am fairly good at) but my Steve said this would be much better as a database.

So, if you had access to the database of your dreams, what kind of data would you like and need in there for any of the above areas or new areas suggested? I started with name, hybridizer, year, and the characteristics of the daylily, where and when I got it, how much I paid. I also have hostas, amaryllis and such so maybe the database should be able to handle multiple species.

Thanks,
Barb

Should this go in the general access area?

Hello, Plantstep is a great program that provides the ability to do all those things for multiple kinds of plants, and is very reasonable, I believe $30.

As far as daylilies are concerned I find the database here pretty good. The only things I would love to see added would be a list of links showing where the plant is available. I know that would be almost impossible because it would have to depend on the suppliers keeping their plants availability up to date, the same thing for pricing. I can see that just having a reference of some kind to past availability and price would be of considerable help. I do try to keep my own past purchase info here on my ATP plant list. I haven't done that well on keeping up with the pricing, but I am constantly adding the info as I find it.

Does Plantstep allow you to put photos of the parents of the daylily on the same page as the daylily itself?

Karen, you just click the parent button, and then pictures of the parents pop up, if you have put pictures of the parents on Plantstep.

Thanks, Gale. This is a bit off topic. Gale, is your avatar a pic of your seedling? If not, what is the daylily in your avatar?

Just want to say it is really gorgeous! Love the white toothy edge and how it provides the perfect backdrop to the colors of the petals and throat.

I had thought that a 3 generation pedigree would be useful to see what is in the background of whatever cross you might wish to make.

Karen, Thank you, it was one of my favorite seedlings to bloom last year. It is not my cross, I purchased the seed off of the LA.

Barb, Absolutely, the more info the better. I was just letting you know that a program was available and at a reasonable cost. There are spots to add all kinds of info about your plants, and a hybridizing section for all the different plants. Good luck on your program.

Thanks, Gale. I might have gone with that one if I didn't have a fellow who does this for a living. He is a 9 yr cancer survivor/patient and this will be a gift to me.
