Hello all,

I moved into my current home over the summer, and I am now beginning to plan out what to do as far as landscaping for the front of the house. I am not real good at this part so I am looking for some ideas. I have ideas for some plants, but what I really need help with is the hardscape. I want to have a good layout for the beds, and also include some small trees in the yard portion. Below are some images of the house, the bushes you see have already been removed, along with the random stepping stones in the yard. Hoping people here have some ideas to get me going!

Thanks, Kim

I like your house design, it lends itself nicely to landscape design! What are the plants you're interested in incorporating? Also curious if you've seen any photos of landscape designs that have inspired you- seeing some of those could give us an idea of the aesthetic/style you're going for. I'd love to see a photo of the inside of that little courtyard area- that looks like a fun place for some special plants.

I was thinking of making two beds, one on each side of the house, with the far ends rounding out a little deeper than the rest. I'm considering some adding some roses, and I'd like a nice tall shrub like an esperanza on one end. I'd also like some bottlebrushes in the back. I'd also like to incorporate some natives like salvias and a rosemary bush would be nice (love the smell!). The tree on the left will hopefully get removed this weekend, and instead I am planning to add a couple small trees to the yard, possible a vitex on the right and a hardy orange on the left.

I am considering using retaining wall blocks to build the border and also raise the beds some, but am having trouble deciding on the blocks to use. I have about 90 red ones that the owner left, but red doesn't really look good with the brick. I'm thinking perhaps a rusty/brown limestone. Eventually the house will get painted tan with dark brown trim, and cedar shutters. But all in good time with my budget. :)
