Nice! Kaleidochrome is a real beauty too; love that streaking. Not sure what I think of the misted hostas like Frosted Hearts; reminds me of HVX when I see the pictures. Perhaps their appearance is different when seen in person, lol. I'm having a hard time making a decision on what to order, my list is too long and real estate is limited; want to make the best choices but it's difficult to choose!

No, they look misty, not blotchy. I have 'Xanadu Paisley Print' and 'Lakeside Shadows' and they have the blotchy, bleeding veins look that are signs of HVX. I can't think of any misty large hostas, though. The ones I have are smalls and mediums.

I have London Fog White Feather and Zebra Stripes, which are all similarly colored for me. Zebra Stripes is only one year old so it will hopefully look more striped in the future, They are all small to medium. If there are any large misted hostas I am not familiar with them. London Fog remains misty all season White Feather gets greener and greener as the season progresses.

I'm on my second White Feather! I've seen pictures of some beautiful plants, but I've been lucky to keep them alive 3 years. I noticed mine was definitely struggling towards fall last year! If yours is doing good, what's your secret? I'm not real impressed with Zebra Stripes either. But I do love London Fog!

White Feather hasn't been much of an increaser, but it has returned reliably (at least so far). It is in a open shaded area which is watered regulary.

Well I'll keep it until it decides to quit showing up! I tried Tattoo twice but it's now gone! Decided it's not worth it. I'll just enjoy the pictures other people post!

Tattoo is one I have also purchased twice. It is cute and interesting but it kind of disappeared both times.

Alvatine Taylor is another large beauty and a favorite of mine. Beautiful gray/green foliage with a nice broad yellow border. She was about 24" tall and 48" wide last year. She produces a lot of flowers. She has surrounded herself with a number of interesting gray/green seedlings. There are perhaps 15 of them. Leaf shapes and color intensities vary. Some seem to be quite robust and will need to be moved soon.

Going through some garden pictures and came across "Potomac Pride". I've had this one for several years and it is a nice dark green with a bit of a shine to the leaves.

Lovely upright Hosta! Is that a big patch of Tiarella in front of it? Beautiful.

Yes it is some creeping kind of Tiarella. That's one of the plants I'm trying to use as a ground cover on the steep hillside. If it doesn't choke the bigger hosta planted on that hillside then they will stay there. Otherwise that hillside will end up just ground cover and a few shrubs.

I find a number of seedling hostas in the gardens each year. I have two Blue Mammoth seedlings that I like very much. They are 3 years old now. I haven't had any streaked seedlings show up yet. I have a whole patch of hosta montana seedlings. Some are quite yellow.

I've got two streaked seedlings! One is from 'Fickle Blue Genes' that I winter sowed, and the other showed up beside Montana Hida-no-hana! I've had the FBG seedling for 3 years now and it's still streaking. It's still a small one so, since it was open pollinated, I have no idea how big is going to get. My best seed dropper is a dark green one with slightly rippled edges that I think is called Ventricosa. A friend gave it to me a long time ago and it's a fertile thing!

Do you harvest and start any seeds indoors? I have done that with great success. I now only harvest seeds from plants I think are special. It is fin to watch them grow indoors during winter.

I have winter sowed a couple of times but never tried it indoors. I do have some Fickle Blue Genes and Lakeside Mom seed in the freezer, but I haven't done something with them. You want them?

If hostasmore doesn't want your FBG seeds, I sure like to have them. I could do a SASE or seed trade?

Thanks for the offer Rose. I have more seeds than I will get started. My favorite nursery opened this week. Have gotten soil and some annual seeds to get started. So looking forward to the growing season again. Love to watch the awakening hostas. I have about 400 hostas. My list is on my old computer. Need to do something about that. I do have Fickle Blue Genes.

No problem! I had saved several hosta varieties and some perennial seeds with big plans to do some winter sowing. Winter took its time getting here and I lost interest. I gave most away but saved these two. Send me your address in a tree mail Duane and I'll send them to you.

As hostas mature, I find there are many that I would classify as large that are not sold as being large. The mature foliage can be so different from the juvenile forms. Great Expectations is a good example of this as is Reptilian. GE is exceptionally beautiful in both forms. Many of the corrugated or rugose varieties don't show these traits until they are more mature. There textures add a lot of interest to the shade garden.

I wonder too, if there's a difference between OS and TC plants. I've seen some beautiful mature Gunther's Prize that have nice dimpled leaves. Although mine has still kept its interesting colors, the leaves are as smooth as a baby's butt! Mine is a tissue culture that I got from Naylor Creek several years ago so I would think it could be considered mature by now...
