I'm getting the newer vertical sleeve gastrectomy where
they only reduce the size of your stomach....so not
dumping syndrome or mal-absorption issues.
After 40 years of battling obesity
I'm 100 lbs.over weight.
I figured this was better than open heart surgery.
I did alot of research before coming to a decision,
and I'm at peace with it. The process started over
a year ago so I've had plenty of time to think about it.
I'm going to a top bariatric surgeon so I will be in good hands.
The surgery is done laparoscopically and has about the same
risk as having your gallbladder out.
Would appreciate your prayers and positive vibes.

I looked into it, but I'm not a candidate. A while back, I worked at a specialty boutique where we catered to women from size 16 on up. I saw many many ladies come in who had the surgery (both the very invasive one and the newer one where it's just a few tiny little slices and marveled at the extreme weight loss. There was one lady who had lost over 300lbs due to the surgery and was waiting to lose her last 25lbs so she could have the reconstructive surgery for the baggy skin.

I'm sending you as many warm jujus & well wishes as I can. What you're going through is not just a surgery, but a complete change of life. I envy you. Good luck & we'll be seeing pics of you as you progress, right?

I wonder if Vicky's back home now or if she had to stay in the hospital after the surgery.

She's probably still in the hospital.. I don't think it's one of those day-surgeries. This is a major surgery, even though they don't need to do a lot of cutting these days. I hope everything went well!!

I would expect her to still be in the hospital, but medical practices are changing so rapidly that I wasn't sure. I stayed in the hospital for three days after Michael was born, for instance, but now women have their babies in the morning and they're home by afternoon.

Thank you all for your kind wishes.
I got home Thursday and just starting to feel like
I have more energy today but still pretty weak.
I managed to water my flower pots tonight.
I have to walk every hour to prevent blood clots.
My surgeon also repaired a hiatal hernia that I didn't
know I had.
Still pretty sore of course.
I will for sure keep everybody posted.

Don't do too much too soon, no matter how you are feeling. Just take it slow and easy, baby steps.

Listen to Sue - baby steps is DEFINITELY the way to go w/any kind of surgery, no matter how good you feel. Don't push it and cause problems down the road!!
