At first, we were going to make this the September contest...but Vic and I realized it could be very time consuming so TA DA! You have all month to make your scarecrow...in any mode you chose to. No rules!

Thanks to Creative Chris for the idea!! Hurray! Hurray!

Oh oh oh oh....

Unreal!! I work so much at the computer I have several projects going on all around me for when I take breaks. Painting, leftover glass globs, old jewelry.....So I've been working on Ruby. Ha!! Now she's going to become my scarecrow.

Ruby...you know Ruby.....as in ♫ ♪ Ruby, oh Ruby...don't take your love to town!!!♬ ♪ ♫

Oh how fun this is going to be.

I've talked about making a Scarecrow for years but we rarely have an Autumn season and with it still feeling like summer, my plans usually get waylaid. Maybe this challenge will motivate me to finally do it ... maybe I should make a Florida Scarecrow! Big Grin

Mmmmmm scarecrow, my mind is a blank...............See what happens this time, BB wasn't good for me, but then I'm not that creative. Someone give us a clue, DH took a small one out of the trash a while back, well more like a Halloween guy, just to stick in the ground. Oh to have a wee bit of Sharon's talent!!! Big Grin

Hey Pegi...

Take a broomstick, stand it upright, about 8 inches from the top attach a yardstick crossways. That would be your skeleton; the yardstick will be the arms. Think about a roundish thing that isn't too heavy for the head. Maybe a roundish bowl or basket or even one of the large empty veggie cans. Slip it over the 8 inches of broomstick at the top for the head. E6000 will hold all that together. There you have a skeleton. The hair can be dried grass, so can the hands....See?

But a broomstick makes a pretty big scarecrow, so you might want to start with a smaller skeleton. You can do this, promise!!

Sheila, Ms. Ruby will be ready in just a few days. Y'all will be the first to see her when she makes her debut!!

Yes, Sheila! And the scarecrow can be a miniature one for your front door or a decoration. You can even:

use a doll as a skeleton...like a Barbie or Ken.
use a stuffed bear as your main guy and dress him up, using some straw to stick out in places.
paint one on wood
polymer clay a scarecrow

The scarecrow is the theme ... what you do with it is up to you!!! Hurray!

You can also google to find instructions for all kinds of scarecrows. Just type in "how to make a scarecrow".

Oooh Dahlia ... lucky you, off to the mountains for a vacation! What mountains are you visiting? I'd love to be vacationing in the Smokey Mountains or anywhere in the Appalachian Mountains right now! I wonder if it's cooler than the 90ºF+ temp's we've been having lately?

I'm lazy so my Scarecrow will have to be easy ... cause if I lose my concentration he'll end up in the back of a closet! Big Grin
