It is very happy purslane Becky. : )
It also may have to do with her weather and growing conditions. I know in Eastern WA it was a very sparse plant, but here in the PNW it grows lush like Memorie's plants.
AYankeeCat said:I eat my weed purslane! Just took a mess of pickled purslane to a Round Up today where it was a hit with at least some of the people. I also put the leaves into my salads every day. It grow strong and wild here in Connecticut.
I would feel more optimistic about a bright future for man if he spent less time proving that he can outwit Nature and more time tasting her sweetness and respecting her seniority. E. B.White

GREAT article, Linda! Interesting about the medicinal applications. Like aloe maybe.
I read it quickly before I turn in (night owl like you) but will read it again tomorrow!
I'm so glad it's native! I try to use as many native plants as I can.

I just pulled a couple very large purslane that were taking over an area in one of my flower beds. It was smothering out some dianthus I don't want to lose and crowded at nice succulant I also don't want to lose. The succulant is also doing very well tho and will bloom soon. I've never seen the purslane bloom at all. I'll have to try eating it.
Can you pickle it by just putting some in some pickle juice? I just emptied a jar of sliced dill pickles and kept the juice in the 'fridge.
I planted portulaca seeds this spring but they didn't come up. I think it was too wet and cold for them this year until about a month ago.

I have never tried pickling purslane but it's worth a try! Sometimes the blooms are very small. But be careful: it might be spurge which looks like purslane and it'll make you very sick.
Basically, if you're sure it's purslane, go for it!
