Welcome!

It certainly looks like Prunus, the closest I have found is Prunus incisa 'Mikinori'.

The flowers on your tree come directly from a stub on the branch, the flowers I linked to appear to hang from a stem. Apricot flowers come from a stub, where do you live? I have a cold climate Apricot tree, the fruits are only suitable for jam or cooking.

*Blush* I edited my post to clarify.

The flowers look to be more like Apricot or Peach, the fruits will tell.

thank you all. i live in Topanga Canyon. West of downtown los Angeles. i am about 4 miles from the pacific ocean. 1600' elevation.

i am looking forward to many happy hours with my new garden and the forum here.

we have about 20 mature fruit trees on 1/2 acre. most of the trees are on a slope and need some work to make them easy to water in a basin. water is very expensive here. they decreased the baseline water amount 35% last summer. over baseline the rate about doubles.

i am a city boy that has moved to the country and loving it. photos taken from the porch.

It looked like an apple to me also. Apples leaf out and then bloom. Peaches, cherries, etc. bloom and then leaf out.

We need some input from cgrooms. Photos of the trunk, the branching and the entire tree would help too. Smiling

I'm thinking its an almond. We still don't know where you live but the almonds are in full bloom in Almond Country, California.

Daisyl here is what i said above "i live in Topanga Canyon. West of downtown los Angeles. i am about 4 miles from the pacific ocean. 1600' elevation. "

Almonds? i have eaten plenty but never seen the fruit. that should be fun to watch. the tree is small but right at the corner of our deck. i am afraid i will have to move it at the end of the season.

Sorry cgrooms. Now that you say that, I do remember that you did tell us where you live. Sighing! Could you update your info corner so my brain doesn't have to work too hard on this?.

Almonds are fun because they are in the same genus as peaches. If that is an almond that the birds planted for you, taste with caution. It may be so bitter that it turns your head inside out. Smiling
