Wow, September already!! Where does the time go? Sad

Roses here are enjoying cooler fall type weather, lots of new buds and new leaf growth. I planted a few more into the ground this past week, Cafe, Yantai (pictured), Tradescant, Hot Cocoa and Ring of Fire. The new satellite gazebo has lots of new plants around it, can hardly wait to have everything fill in!

Zuzu and I will be heading to Regans nursery this weekend for their annual half off sale, (roses, maples and trees). We also have a couple of other nurseries locally that are running sales for all their plants, anywhere from 20-30%, great time to get some of the shrubs I have been contemplating. On local nursery just emailed that they have 20% off on all their Talavera Pottery, I have a trio of quail that I have my eye on. (I want to start collecting a few quail things, they are all around our property and the cutest things!)
The online bare root rose nurseries are tempting all of us, making lists, checking on HMF and various forums for reviews and comments takes up so much of my time, no wonder I am behind getting down to actually planting!! Rolling my eyes.

We just may go under 100 on Sunday, finally. I wish I had a crystal ball and knew if I could dare fertilize the roses this late. they are all so hungry, and with this heat, I was afraid to do anything other than compost and fish emulsion. I don't know if winter's going to hit us in October or not until January. Right now, thinking about a 3' snowdrift is a sweet fantasy.

Sue, I wish I could go out nursery hopping with you and Zuzu again - alas, a few thousand miles distance lies between us!

Well, here are some photos from the garden from the past couple of days (despite last weekend's hurricane).

Mike, those are beautiful! It's hard to believe any of those went through a hurricane a week ago.
Where did you buy Pink Intuition? Your Ch-Ching looks much more attractive than the hang tags on the plants. i think I resisted buying that one only because the name rubbed me the wrong way.

I've resisted buying roses because of their names too, Cindi. That was the reason I never bought Happy Chappy. The name is just too stupid.

Thanks, Cindi. I purchased pink intuition from Wisconsin Roses, and grew it as a "maiden" plant - which means that is a newly grafted rose with just the little bud protruding from the stem of an otherwise complete plant. You have to lop off the entire top of the original rose after it comes out of dormancy and sprouts leaves, so that the energy goes into growing the grafted bud. It's doing just fine, and is quite big.

I buy roses whose names (or celebrity personalities) I don't like - but then rename them. I like to come up with old-garden names that resemble the plant's characteristics, like "Souvenir de la Mme Diplocarpon".

I do that when I rescue cats that already have names if the names are too boring or too generic. Lady, for example, became Lady Furthermore's Folly.

Oh, I like that one!

I doubt a cat would like being called Mme Diplocarpon, unless it really had black spots. Big Grin

Rolling on the floor laughing and I didn't even recognize that name at first, had to Google it. Rolling my eyes. What a fancy name for a rose with black spot!

Does anyone feel like taking a stab at identifying this rose? It appears to be a hybrid tea. It's quite short, but it probably was bought as a band and has not reached full potential.
