I did come across the Bonchi info about 3 months ago and have 4 "trees" growing in a 5-gallon community pot. I have the same type of peppers shown above growing on my little trees...mine are the Hot Pepper (Capsicum baccatum 'Mayo Chiltepine') Mexican wild peppers. I will transplant them soon into their own "bonsai" pots.

You're already ahead of the game, KD. I have to try this too. All we need is more addictions, but isn't it all fun!

Fatalii brought a fairly over grown pepper in, in the fall of his year and back pruned it heavily. It won't stay within ideal bonsai proportions for long, but you should be able to get presentable proportions 8-12 weeks out of the year.

I agree In general the pepper plants probably aren't the best for long term bonsai plants. Still, it would be impressive for a short time, and lovely when it's fruiting.

True that in general, pepper plants grow large fairly quickly. However, my Mayo Chiltepine "wild" pepper trees had branched out, produced loads of peppers, and has remained fairly compact after only one time of pinching the terminal apex. I believe it is due to the genetics of this variety of pepper.

I'll have to look for smaller varieties of pepper. Don't know if I can find yours, KD.

This company is one that I have ordered from within the past year. It could be that I didn't order it but was given to me as a bonus added to my other orders. This had happened before where they sent me a free packet of cherry tomato seeds. Or else they don't have it anymore.

Karen, if you can't find it on line...please tree-mail me your address and I'll be glad to send you fresh seeds. Smiling

I know I had at least 4 pepper trees in this 5-gal. pot. Blinking But found only 2 today...I think the cat must have culled the others out. Lillie cat used to use it for potty when she was smaller. Glare

Okay...I dug up one Mayo Chitipine pepper tree and prepped for bonsai.

11 days later...abundant new growth! Hurray! I think the lowest branch needs to be eliminated? Maybe later.
