Brenden, I know how you feel about the moss..it won't thrive here in my area as well, just too hot and dry here. I am still learning with Pinguiculas too, some seems okay in standing water, some not. So I observe which ones I need to really make sure remains always in standing water. Though they say it does not need to be in a standing water set-up, I think in my area it compensates for our very low humidity levels.

That staghorn fern was really so impressive to see, so I took a photo, a good souvenir Lovey dubby

Unfortunately, I did not see any tag then for the staghorn.

Hmmm! Someone CAN'T grow moss?

Where I live, there are billboard ads for services to power-wash the moss off your roof, and apply nostrums to keep it from growing back SO FAST.

I used to shovel ice and snow off my driveway all winter. Now I sometimes scrape off (some of) the moss.

But I would not trade my climate for ANYONE'S!

No problem growing moss here, either! Rolling my eyes.

I just love my pitcher plant! Here is this plant! I hope it makes it through the summer outside in the Pacific Northwest! When is it a good time to repot? My first year with this beautiful plant!

Alisa, I have the same question as you. I only have a single plant, rooted from a cutting last spring. It is approximately 12-14" tall and has three "pitchers", but with several tiny pitchers that may or may not form. It has been in a 3.5" diameter pot since it was rooted. When is it time to up-pot?

I bought my Nepenthes in May of 2012. At the time the gentleman that sold it told me that it could remain in that small pot for probably a couple more years.
Thumb of 2016-07-14/terrafirma/e72251

It remained in that pot, doing fairly well, until last winter. But that was my fault. *Blush* I left it out on my covered deck, and when I most probably should have brought it in....Well, let's just say that I'm surprised that it survived, albeit with some leaf damage. This spring, I cut it back, and re potted it into a one size larger pot, and I must say, it is a survivor. It's taken a while, but it's bouncing back with new leaves, and pitchers. They are much smaller than they had been originally, but considering my neglect, and what it went through, I'm just happy it survived, and is getting stronger.

Tara, @terrafirma, I think your Nepehthes looks great. I think you have the same variety as I do, but I don't know my variety. I got it as a cutting with no label.

I have ordered some Nepenthes ventricosa, aka "Red Pitcher", and think that this variety is different than my plant. I will know when the pitchers form on a ventricosa. I just confirmed shipping today, so I should get those plants next week.

These plants will be tiny, really, really tiny, so it may be a year before any of them are "grown-up" enough to grow those pitchers. This is all new to me.

Tara, I love to experiment. I figure that if I can grow orchids from tiny little things, perhaps I can grow carnivores as well. By the way, I now start my fiddle leaf ficus and staghorn ferns from "babies". I still take air-divisions from my "Mother" fiddle so that I have immediate, mature plants, but I only take a handful of those divisions every 3-4 months.
