Put in a small order, we're away from home and I don't have my list! See they had a nice selection of Saunders peonies, Karen....several really lovely ones!

I got Francis, Lovebirds, Rose Nobel and Truth. What did you guys get?

Yes, they do Liz! I am practically out of room so I am not going to order any peonies this year.

I am going to save money for future offerings from Adelman peonies when they start selling Bob Johnson's peonies. He has some really gorgeous huge peonies in very unique colors currently under propagation for sale.

Yes, I saw a few of his peonies during the slideshow at the seed seminar I attended a couple years ago. They were very full double peonies in colors of yellow, peach, bi-color pink in sizes 8"+ across. According to Bob, these herbaceous peonies have super sturdy stems. They should be offering them soon as he said that these peonies were under propagation at Adelman in 2014.

I wonder if I fly down there this spring I could see any of his. Would be interesting. I could even buy some in pots, dump the pots and wrap the plants to take them back on the plane.

They sound wonderful, Karen, I'll try to ask Carol Adelman when she thinks they'll be offered at the APS convention. Maybe Tracey and I can convince her to join ATP and post occassionally, see her very infrequently in some of the groups on Facebook.

Oh please let me know what Carol Adelman says about Bob Johnson's peonies and when they will be offering them. Thanks very much, Liz.

I also wrote to Adelman Peonies when I posted the above post 2 days ago. I received a response from Kady Adelman today. Here is her response:

"Karen,

Unfortunately we do not have any available at this time. It is looking like it could be at least few years or more until any of his crosses become available for purchase.

It is a very slow process when growing from seed.I could put you down on a waiting list, and when any come available, we will email or call you.

Sorry I can’t be of further assistance.

Kady Adelman
Adelman Peony Gardens"

So I asked her to put me on the waiting list. Will let everyone know when they become available.

One of his seedlings, BJ1, got a seedling award at last year's APS convention and a pic is in the Dec APS Bulletin.
I'll take pics if there are any in the competition this year.
That waiting list sounds like a smart idea!

Gold City has opened their website for ordering. I guess this must be the week for opening . They bought Myron Bigger's peonies when he retired. They are a very sweet couple and I have toured the place twice. I highly recommend going there. Also I have never had any problems with the peonies I have purchased from them.

I just hope when they have enough of Bob's introductions for sale, they won't be too expensive. Hopefully, they will not be more than $400.

I've ordered from Gold City before as well but have never toured them, LG, and was really happy with their roots. Actually enjoy several of Bigger's peonies, has some really beautiful full, large doubles.

I know what you mean, Karen. Hopefully the new selections will be reasonably priced but if they're unusually colored it could get expensive.....

Getting a peony seed to flower takes 3-5 years (even up to 8 with tree peonies I have been told), that's first flower. I have heard that it needs ten years or so after that initial flowering to make enough divisions to sell as an offering. Sounds like Johnson may have some interesting peonies. Look forward to that day.

Peony seed advice:
Don't put off starting until "tomorrow", do it today Smiling It brings you a day closer to bloom day. You'll be glad you did.

That purchase of peonies was certainly a long term investment for Adelman's. They must be looking to hand down to the next generation rather than sell out as so many have. I ordered the ones I wanted last fall including 'Christmas.' a fairly rare one. Hope it does well. Also Mahogany just to say I had it. lol. It was stupidly expensive when it wont the APS Gold Medal but dropped like a rock last fall. Some like Lemon Chiffon never seem to drop much. I have seen it for $360 (what I paid several years ago) down to $150 this year at one vendor.

Oooh, I had overlooked this thread and they're already selling out of a few varieties! I'm happy to see prices of some ITOHs that I've been wanting have dropped and prices on a bunch of herbaceous varieties I'm interested in look good. Last year was my first time ordering from them and I was most pleased with all 5 plants. They all look very promising now as they're just beginning to grow.

Contrary Mary's website is updated. She has quite a few fern leaf peonies. Has anyone ordered from her before? Any problems? Are the peonies true to name?
Confused
