This Hibiscus is native to the U.S. coastal states from Texas to North Carolina. It is a wetlands plant but can tolerate drier soils the other marsh Hibiscus such as H. moscheutos, and H. coccineus.

2016 will be my first time growing this particular Hibiscus. Seeds germinated readily after an overnight soak.

That looks like Abelmoschus manihot, not Hibiscus aculeatus.
