Last year I did a post on the AIS National convention. I posted hundreds of photos. What I found is that 20 was the max for one post. So you have a long way to go.

JB, the growth looks right, but I really can't tell from the flower. Yours doesn't have the white center that mine does, but that could be the different growing conditions. The flowers are 3" across here.

Carol, these flowers are not that big. They are about 2 1/2 in. and I thought maybe the flowers were not completely open yet because my other ones had different centers. Sighing!

Microb,
I'm responding to your Dmail here. I'm still paid up at Dave's Garden until I think September so I still frequent both sites. I've got blooms on the one from you with the little yellow blooms, it's my favorite oddly enough. Some of the others I received in our trade have buds. My little seedling epi's aren't really doing all that well, the largest is like 2" and I lost a bunch of them over the winter. I still have a good dozen plants though so I'm really just hoping for a good pot full when all is said and done.
I just inherited a Christmas cactus that I swear is two feet across and at least the long. It's sick, it was rootbound and yellow, but I repotted it and when it feels better I'll have to post a picture of it. I've never seen one this big, should be impressive when it blooms.
Look at that dirty window, teach me to have windows so close to the ground.

That's a beautiful bloom JB. Hurray!

I just can't get that one to grow. Had some weak blooms on mine last year but I think the plant pooped out for some reason. Its still there but does not look good.

I was warned that German Empress is a short lived Epi. and take cuttings. I have learned to believe that. Last year the leaves looked really ugly, and I did take cuttings. So far, this year only a few branches are blooming, but I have lots of healthy new growth. Unfortunately (maybe) I gave the rooted cutting, which was blooming, to a neighbor a couple of days ago. They have shared with me, and her husband liked the hanging baskets, as apposed to the ones they had in 5 Gal. buckets. I'm out of limbs to hang them on anyway. Whistling

I've run out of space in my greenhouses so I'm thinking of trying a few out in the forest, kind of like their natural environment. I have some in pots along the driveway that seem to be doing OK regardless of rain fall, with buds coming. If I put them in the forest along the trails I will have to make rounds cleaning the debris and leaves off that fall from above. I just started putting up trail name markers so I can find my way around the forest. Have to name some trails after Epis.

This is the first time my German empress has bloomed. I will definitely take some cuttings. This is a beautiful epi ( but then again, aren't they all?).
JB yours definitely looks like a German Empress bloom.

Mike, I envy you being able to leave them out year round.

Dee - you wanted to see some pics of the Curley Locks. Here you go. Seed to bloom in 17 months. I cannot separate some of the pots as they have curled into each other.

Linda - you sent me one labelled Venetian Something and did not know if the label was right. Well its growing well but is starting to look like a Dragon Fruit type of growth. I'll post a pic soon. And those Strictum cuttings are now giving plenty of blooms this year.

I got this small red one at a farmers market last Sunday for $6. Have no idea what it is and not sure if the small plant has enough energy to open up the bloom. We shall see. (The seedlings behind the red bloom are just showing the first flat leaf in the center - see March 12 and 19th)

The bud that is almost open is Tropical Incense. Hope to post that tomorrow.

Cuttings are looking good and the hanging pots are really working well.

Enjoy!.

May I ask where you got that one? I would like to find a vendor who sold a variety of Epis online. Can you help me with that?

I got this one at a show several years ago. My links to growers are all out of date, but if you Google Epiphyllums I'm sure you can find some. Around here we share cuttings with neighbors...mostly unnamed.

@JB I did a quick search and saw 2 sources for "Good as Gold". Can't attest to the quality of the vendors, but here they are.... MattsLandscape.com & eBay. Hope this helps. It is a beautiful Epi!
