I just prepared a Keppel list and damned computer just lost them all!

I cut and pasted my list of 60 Keppels. Not pretty - I carefully typed a list - but lost them!!! - so this is what I've got for now. Includes both haves and some wants. Wants are starred.

Debra, thanks for telling me how to do that search!

As I thought, the only Keppel on my list (on order) is 'Wintry Sky'.

'Arctic Express' pops up on that search, but that is because Keppel introduced the plant; the hybridizer was Joseph Gatty. (This is one of the pair of irises that I am trying to beat the Stachys off of...)



Now, if we're talking wants... well that could take a while to sort out...

It wouldn't take too long for me to list my wants. Just remove everything I have and then the rest goes on the list.

But seriously... I think that our eyes are bigger than our energy, and make us want more than (in most cases) our garden space can accommodate...

...which is when you start digging out the lawn...

I didn't add those that died... I should probably check my Volcanic glow since two of my fellow Californians have lost theirs..

I see many on everyone's lists that I want... but I'm being good (for now)

A friend and my m-i-l liked the looks of Volcanic glow a lot on Superstition's Facebook album. I guess I should get Montmartre it's parent instead (loved a lot too) in the future.

I don't know what all Keppel iris I have, but looking at other's lists.

You got that right, for me at least! Especially in the winter, then when all the irises start to arrive in the mail I ask myself why did I order so many!

Volcanic Glow has been a steady grower for me, I wouldn't call it a fast grower, but it's been steady and so far has not given in to rot. (now watch, I've probably just jinxed myself.) That seems to be true about a lot of luminatas though.

These are the Keppel irises in my garden, and the * indicates ordered this year. At least I think these are all Keppel irises. As I am looking through my list I get sidetracked and just start adding irises.

First it came as a surprise to me that Keppel introduced both Alpenview and Wintry Sky, and in the SAME year! These two are always in competition with each other, with people strongly preferring one or the other.

Second - I love Keith's iris, but they have a horrible success rate here. Venita Faye, Jazz Era both rotted almost immediately. Some I have saved, many never bloom, and a couple struggle. I keep trying with different vendors, and a large portion of mine were gifted.

So, my list:

Eye to Eye - surprised it bloomed, very small but still growing. Moving to a sunnier spot this summer.
Jersey Cream - love this one


Londonderry - new
Persnickety - bloomed but diminished. Small new growth coming out now.
Protocol - has yet to bloom
Safari Sunrise - new
Coney Island - up and disappeared
Shock - slow growth
Alpenview - doing well


Brilliant Idea - bloomed, need to check on it
Class Ring - new
Cross Current - has yet to bloom
Easter Candy - slow growth, has yet to bloom
Flights of Fancy - has yet to bloom
Friendly Advice - new

Haunted Heart - new
Midnight Oil - I like this one but it hasn't bloomed in years. May be leaving.
Montmartre - a bonus iris, grows great, looks great

Leslie, Londonderry and Protocol do well here. Brilliant idea also a strong grower and bloomer. Midnight Oil and Montmartre are high on my want list. MO died here but I want to give it one more chance.
I was thinking of ordering this one. I wanted it for its dots so I looked at the photos in the database and they are so varied in pattern and color that I think I may like Dipped In Dots much better.

I really like the falls on Sneezy but am not fond of the standards.
