Just stick it in the ground!

Well, not quite but almost. Smiling The ground should preferably be wet. I use a round plastic dowel to make a hole in the dirt and snip off a piece of the mother plant and plant it. Within a short time you'll have purslane growing well as it spreads quickly. It's a gorgeous, thick ground cover.
I plant purslane in the ground, some in containers and some in hanging baskets. The bees adore it as much as I do.

I buy several plants each summer season, cut them up and start dozens of new plants. I favor the hot pinks, fuchsias and mixed varieties but buy one of each because together they make quite a show!. One year I bought a white one and the bees created stripes in the blooms with their pollinating soon after.

The purslane blooms have been nicknamed Dolly Partons because they are technically open 9 to 5 (the movie) and my sister calls them Mary Engelbrites since they resemble Mary's cute flowers she draws. This will be my first year to try seeds so I will share information once they start growing.

I plant purslane in the ground, some in containers and some in hanging baskets.
The blooms open in the morning and die in mid afternoon in Phoenix when it's very hot. As fall comes around, the blooms stay open longer. I'm always sad to see them die off when the weather cools off.

When you say that the flower blooms in the morning but dies in the mid afternoon, do they all come back the next morning?

I'll try that stick-it-in-the-ground thing. It's been so cold here that I haven't seen any coming up in the garden. I did pull out some of the false-clover type weeds today, however...it's trying to take over!

ha ha Charleen, you weren't bothering me. Before I clicked to make the photo large, it looked like a purslane at first. Sometimes the weeds in our life are interesting, aren't they?

I wonder if we have a cubit here on weeds? Let me go check for you!

Ella is starting one, that is what got me started. I have a new camera and I snapped that this morning cause Ella needed a weed. Well, now that I got it, I don't know what it is. I even started a weed ID forum for Ga. Now that is desperate, isn't it I know someone will know. It just isn't me. But it sure is nice visiting with you. We do have purslane here, When it pops up this summer I will get you a picture. O.K.? thanks, Charleen
