Wow, that's a keeper! I can just smell the fragrance.

Well, if your cuttings didn't root in water then now's a good time to try rooting some in a soil medium. You still have plenty of time.

Thanks for the pic!

No problem, Shoe. Yep; methinks I need to try some in the sand mixture someone in this thread was talking about, or maybe it's in the propagating daphne thread. I'll find it, though!

I'm trying some weigelas and some aster vine in a pot of water, but I'd love to actually be able to root rose cuttings. I've tried many methods and so far no luck.

Do any of you do any propagation with a cloner? Just built this one and put some cornus cuttings in it. Is this a bad time to try with the cornus?

I have done cuttings from geraniums, fuschias, hydrangea, cuphea and been successful. Never harder wood cuttings.

I like to plant by using suggestion in Farmer's Almanac. So if I cut something out of sinc, I worry about it not rooting or growing. I have some Brugs I need to cut for friend and this may be way to go...

Does anyone have any magic methods for "holly" cuttings. We have some beautiful Holly just now and it needs to be trimmed. I thought I may try and take some cuttings to see if I could start them. All suggestions will be appreciated. Please Keep it simple. I can propagate tropical houseplants but I am not good at regular outside garden plants or trees.

Chelle: it sounds great and I'll be trying it next year. Meant to give it a go this year, but my time has not been my own to do so.

Shoe, I was out last night digging up bramble roots in the bed where the daphne lives and noticed some of the prunings from it lying on the ground but still perfectly healthy, so I grabbed one and stuck it in the ground just to see what happens. If it can live that long and still be viable, I figure it's worth a try. The water method has not provided results to date.

Sorry, JB, not tips for holly cuttings. Have you checked on DG to see about propagation for them or done a simple search? Just a thought.

No luck on the cornus yet but they are still green. My fuchsia autumnale rooted in the cloner. If no luck with the cornus at this time I will try again in the spring.

I built a cloner a couple of years ago. I haven't tried hardwoods, but lantana does not root well in a cloner. I may try rooting some camellias just to see what happens. They are very slow to root.

No, never rooted poinsettias. They are apart of the euphorbia family and I have rooted 'Black Bird' and others just with rooting powder and seed starting soil with lots of luck.
Still no roots on my Dog wood. I have a few cuttings still looking good but no roots. I'm going to try again in the early spring. Maybe with the cutting just comming out of dormancy I will get roots.
Never did any holly, not a big fan of that plant.

I propagate dahlias using 4 oz cups for bottoms (with holes drilled) and 12 oz clear cups for tops to make little greenhouses. I dip my cuttings in rooting hormone and stick in really wet soil, the pop on the top. Takes about 2 weeks o r so to see roots in the bottom (also clear plastic cups) and you are off and running. It is almost too successful. I only do it on things that I hve one of and am afraid of losing. Never tried wood cuttings.

Hey, I didn't know you could do that with dahlias! Good to know! Thumbs up
