Thread OP

I have a 6ft tall madagascar palm that has a single stem and healthy growth of leaves at the end but there is a limb that branches off and it's just a dead stump. Is there any way of promoting growth again from this dead limb ? Cheers

Welcome! to ATP.

I don't think I have ever seen a Madagascar palm (Pachypodium lamerei) quite that big! The lower part of the "dead" branch is still green. I suspect, given time, it will grow new buds somewhere along the length of that branch. Give it time.

Please add location info and possibly your hardiness zone to your information. It will help in the future to know where you are and what your growing conditions are. Someplace warm and sunny considering the photo of your palm. Smiling

Daisy

Or you could cut the top part off; the lower section will then branch.
My P. lamerei is about 9 ft tall, with five trunks, they get really big here. This picture is of my P. rutenbergianum...

The problem I have found with cutting parts off is that if you cut into living tissue, more of the branch will die as it scabs over. If the part you want to cut off is dried up, then cut it off. But leave some of the dried up part on.
