Those look GREAT! Seattle is Z8? And these are outside all the time? I wish you had a plant list on here, Mark. TY for the pics!

Tiffany, I noticed Mark's zone too. Blinking Maybe I should think about creating a cactus/succulent bed under the roof overhang at my house. Most of mine seem to handle the cold OK, as long as they are not wet. I've had mine in pots under the overhang all winter long, except for the big snow weekend, which only gave us ice. I took them in the garage then, but took them back out on the stoop again. We had lots of rain, and I forgot to cover them and they got wet. I left them out for a day and the soil mix dried out fairly well. It's going to be cold for the next few days and I may be away, so they are inside in front of a sunny window at the moment. I'm afraid whatever moisture remaining in the soil along with the cold temps might cause rot in some of them in. I'll put them back out when it warms up again, hopefully by Monday, when I return.

I'm having similar thoughts, but isn't Seattle pretty wet? My plan of only watering permanently-outside plants on warm days that will be followed by a few nights above freezing (so no plants have much moisture during the colder times) seems to be going well.

100% so far with any Sedums tried (and the only ones left in ground/exposed to rain so far, that's going well too.)

Keep inspiring, Mark!

Here is part of my cactus garden after some under the snow time and temps in the single digits. My soil is sand. I didn't amend so they are growing in sand. In the summer, they get watered once a week. The trick is planting cactus that can take your conditions. I live in Zone 7a at 5000 feet.

The barrel to the left is Echinocereus engelmannii. The one to the right is Echinocereus triglochidiatus. The prickly in the back is Opuntia basilaris. The closer prickly is Opuntia polyacantha. The cholla against the fence is a red cholla.

PS: The garden has been in for 3 years now.
