Thread OP

I first want to say hi. I received two Amaryllis kits for Christmas and planted them per the instructions on the box. They started poking about a 1/2" leaf tip about two weeks after planting and then it died back, and nothing has started since. I thought the problem was the temperature as our house gets cool to cold, so I moved them to a warm room where they currently reside. One bulb is green on the tunic area of the bulb, but has zero roots, the other is a pale green/ yellow and also zero roots. I am not sure as to what to do for them and it may be to late to save.. I will try to post pictures.

Welcome! JP14 you may have gotten diseased bulbs which would explain the problem. Photos would help give us an idea of the condition of your bulbs.

Welcome. Some bulbs bloom before they have roots. Of more concern is the die back of the first leaf. They don't need sun until the leaf tip is up, but warmth can be an issue. Don't water again until the leaves are up. Without roots, the bulb wouldn't even utilize the soil moisture. Are the bulbs soft? As Margaret said, a photo would help.

Perhaps they are not ready to come out of dormancy yet. if the bulb is not rotted or turning red, I would just leave them in the pot, put them in a sunny spot, and only water them when the soil is dry. They might just need more time. Crossing Fingers!

javaMom Welcome! I went on an Amaryllis binge this winter -- 13 of them. Times them to bloom one at a time, so I had them all winter long! I just love them!

Love all your beautiful Amaryllis, I only got five of them last fall and planted them in pots, transferred three of them to my flower beds and keep two in pots, hopefully they bloom much better next year...
