I planted moss rose for the first time in many years. The removal of a bush gave me a sunny spot that was perfect.

When I add this plant to my blog I'll write a note to consider purslane next year Smiling

Maridell, they are so pretty!!! I don't have portulaca this year but did last year and it was fun watching the colors change.

BTW, you need your purslane badge! Whistling You'll really purslane too. Our home depot is selling baskets of it right now for $5.00. It blooms well into fall here in Phoenix.

I agree it is fun to see what colors are prominent each day.

I'd never heard of purslane before seeing this forum so it will be interesting to see if I can find it around here.

Maridell, I had never heard of purslane until I found this forum. Our Lowes carries it and I got it for the first time last year. For me, it reminds me of miniature portulaca and it does so well in hanging planters too.

One problem when Ive claled nurseries is that they will say "yes, we have purslane" and I get to the store and it's portulaca.

Moss Rose is Portulaca, Purslane is Purslane. Big Grin

I have both annual and perennial portulaca. I keep the perennial portulaca inside in the winter and the annual portulaca comes back from reseeding.
Here's a comparison of the blooms:
Annual portulaca:

Here's the perennial portulaca. The blooms are much bigger. For some reason it doesn't produce seeds.

Gordon, this is purslane. It's from the portulaca family and many nurseries label it incorrectly. It's GORGEOUS!

thanks Vicki... Boo... that explains how it is all one color type... I usually see portulaca as a mix.. and was happy to see it this way.. but it isn't... I 'll get a better picture of it...

The purslane here, if you can find it, is that color, yellow, and a white. Used to be everywhere, but has become scarce....
