Oo, it's a pretty one, Ceci. You sure got a good close-up shot of it, too.

Melanie, I've never planted any milkweed in my yard. It has all just volunteered.

So I had a pretty rough week last week. Too much adulting, not enough laying in bed watching cartoons. I didn't even get to go to MOSI yesterday because I felt so bad. On the plus side, it's been raining a lot.

I have an update on my Cassius Blue. All day Saturday it looked like it would emerge (see chrysalis pics from earlier post). But I went to bed that night and it was still in there. I woke up about 2:30 am to go to the bathroom and it was out! I thought, "Yay, I'll release it in the morning." Now, I had the butterfly in a Gladware container but I think the lid and the bottom weren't the same brand because they didn't seal as tight as usual. Or maybe it was just old. But it fit close enough - or so I thought. I woke up again around 4:30 am and checked again. No butterfly. Even half asleep, I managed to think like a butterfly and looked toward the nearest light (and heat) source - my lamp. Yeah, I sleep with a lamp on. Anyway, there it was sitting on my lamp shade. No longer trusting the container I had put it in, I grabbed the one with my smaller Zebra ST cat, knocked the Cassius down in it, and put the lid on. Success! It flew right off the next morning, but I did take a picture of it in the container for you guys. I will also be getting rid of that Gladware container. Remember folks, when butterflies close their wings, they get very, very skinny.

In other news, my large Zebra ST gut purged today so it will be pupating soon. The smaller one has grown quite a bit since his trauma in the garbage can. I hope he molts though, because if I was in a garbage can, I would want new skin. I would have rinsed him off but I figured waterboarding him would be adding insult to injury after what he'd just been through.

Today I was out looking for my (kitty) cat and happened to glance over at a black cherry tree...spotted an egg! Can't wait to see which kind of tiger it might be!

I have some fairly tall black cherry trees also, but I'd have to grow wings to check their foliage, so I just check the shorter trees.

I wasn't sure, Linda and I was too busy to look it up! My Black Cherry tree is also very, very tall, but I have some shorter volunteers around the yard. I keep looking for Red-Spotted Purples, though. The Tiger STs here really prefer the Sweetbay Magnolia.

Nice, Jim! I miss my blooming trees, but soon the Hop Tree will bloom and the larger black cherries have bloom thingies forming, too. Don't know why the smaller ones don't bloom! Oh, I forgot to mention that the Variegated Frits here DO use flax plants. There's Rock Flax and Yellow Flax that they use, both native plants. So that cat actually was eating the flax!

Saw my first BF today, a Cabbage White, may have seen another, took a pic but wheather it turns out is problematic as it was a zoom at a distance. Good to see your admiral Jim. Stands out w/ the white flowering tree.
