I didn't get as much done as SallyG, but I had a good planting day. I planted most of the Packera aurea (Golden Groundsel) I got from Sally G and most of the violets I got from RickM, then moved an Anise hyssop and planted a Baptisia australis (False Indigo) Donnerville gave me last fall in its place.

I also got some drudge work done...cleaned the #%$& fish pond filter and mowed the lawn (had to empty the bag 5 times). I'm visualizing a gazebo or rain garden where the pond is now. Anyone know how I can attract herons to my yard? Smiling

My youngest daughter came over with her incredibly adorable kitten and we had a nice dinner. 2 wonderful days in a row = one great weekend!

Yes....I'm a little jealous Sally (just a little - LOL)!! I got absolutely NO planting done (at least in my own yard) but spent a glorious day with the tribe and tribettes!! First having brunch made...then helping future DOL plant up the herbs/veggies she wanted to try and grow...then take-out Chinese. Got the darling son who is considerably taller (as is most of the world Rolling on the floor laughing ) to bring his nifty weed-wacker/mini chainsaw transformer over to the townhouse to give the Dwarf Magnolia a much needed haircut (mark one thing off what surely will be on the pending 'to do' list by the HOA). Overall...feeling very blessed...couldn't have asked for a better weekend after getting to spend time with my plant family and kiddos!!! Lovey dubby
“Little girl, why are you doing this? You can’t save all these starfish. You can’t begin to make a difference!” After a few moments thought, she bent down, picked up another starfish & hurled it as far as she could into the ocean. Then she looked up at the man and replied, “Well, I made a difference to that one!” Be the change you wish to see in the world. http://www.stillsthatspeak.com...

Muddy, I've heard having a fish pond IS a good way to bring in herons- were you teasing?
Plant it and they will come.

Yesterday I was up in Jessup for a volleyball tournament so wasn't able to do any planting, but did get to visit with Mariposa. We went to her famous Ace but lo and behold the nursery part has changed significantly under new management--more commercial in its stock, less emphasis on all the natives. But, I did find some coleus and a few other things, and of course it was so nice to catch up with Mariposa--all in all, a nice day. Now I'm sure tired this morning from such a busy weekend, and sure wish it was a 3 day weekend and I could *stay home*! Sighing!

That's a shame about the Ace store! another mainstream, cookie cutter plant vendor.

I'm paying for all my enthusiasm of yesterday- feel like I got hit by a bus... Big Grin

I only had 4 hours available to do a bit of gardening yesterday before it got too dark (and Game of Thrones!), and 30 minutes of that was for putting together one of the Aldi display shelves. It's perfect for my bonsai and succulents! Thanks, Rick, for alerting us to this sale!

The rest of the time was spent digging out my zoysia grass which had once again infiltrated the beds. And I figured, why not widen the beds while I'm digging out the zoysia! Whistling I couldn't possibly fit the new plants in the existing beds, anyway. It took a couple of hours to dig out the zoysia and my terribly rocky soil, so that left me very little time for the actual planting. I still have so much more to plant! Ugh, my hands are already so sore... Thumbs down

This year I'm not growing tomatoes myself (just peppers), so the tomatoes I got yesterday were distributed to my sister and mother. I'll be enjoying the literal fruits of their labor this year. Big Grin And of course, I'll be reporting back to you with taste tests of the wonderful variety of tomatoes I got at the swap. Big Grin

Hope you took enough tomato plants for them while you were sorting them out, SSG! Give your hands a break for a few days... I know there are a lot of things we think about planting around Mother's Day, but remember that this year Mother's Day was as early as it can possibly be... so there's some buffer!

Only a little. I'm done caring for the fish I started "temporarily" fostering for my sister and her family in February 2014. I know someone else who will take them, so I've decided that Sis and BIL either dig a pond by the 4th of July (Independence Day Hurray! ) or the fish go to another owner.

I've got a pond (near the new bench/arbor in teh back corner) that's more of a bog -- half filled so there's some 6" depth water and clay for lotus plants, plus some pots of LA irises... the "deeper" part will have a water lilly and maybe a couple gouramis and a betta (no circulation pump/filter, as I don't have electricity out there and don't want the up keep... labyrinth fish can handle lower O2 and warmer summer water, unlike goldfish).

I also have a "bubbler bog" in the other corner with a water reservoir below a layer of rocks & gravel... need to get the pump set up so it has a little waterfall going again.

I top up my "pocket ponds" (including all the 20-24" water garden containers you may have noticed) once a week in the summer, and then I add mosquito bits. It does actually cut down on the number of mosquitoes in the garden -- they think they are breeding, laying eggs in those pots, but it's a dead end. Hah!

Just sayin' that you don't have to rush to decide what to do with it when you get rid of the fish... but you also don't have to keep maintaining the pump and filter, either.

and yes Jill , I am sure there were a few plants I did not get around to getting. But assure you , Mom and I left with plenty to keep us busy for now.

I did manage to get 13 pots from the swap planted yesterday as well as 6 of my own pots. and our back porch is still full.

My apologies to those of you who called dibs on Asclepias Gay Butterflies or Hello Yellow. Due to poor growing weather they wont' be ready til summer or perhaps the fall.

To those who took iris fans from me, they are a reblooming white iris named "Immortality"

What a bounty of plants you all bestowed on me! May my gardening efforts be worthy of your generousity

Judy

PS Did anyone lose a pair of sunglasses? I found them amongst some of my plants. LMK
