'Loyalist' is a white-centred (reverse colour) sport from 'Patriot'. I've been luck with my choice of location as it has grown well for me. It's about 10' north of an oak tree on the east side of my yard. It gets a bit of morning sun before becoming shaded by the tree. Please feel free to post your own pictures of 'Loyalist'

This photo July 25. You can also see a bit of 'Patriot' at the bottom of the picture.

I like this series of hostas. Some of them have very subtle differences from each other. Such as speckling/misting on various areas of white.

Why does loyalist not do well? Does it require deep shade?

Loyalist has done well for me. Got it 3 years ago from a local growers outlet for $1. It was just 2 leaves at that time. It's one of my favorites.

I also planted it with Patriot.

I sure hope mine does better. I put it in full shade and gave it more water. The young leaves look good!!!

Jesse - interesting the yellow that you have in your 'Loyalist' leaves. I've not seen that before. Very pretty.

I think 'Loyalist' wants a bit of morning sun to do really well. At least mine gets some. I've found over the years that hostas planted in full shade rarely do well. Most of them like more sun than we give them credit for but most would rather not have hot afternoon sun and the higher your zone number, perhaps less sun because it's likely to be stronger sun.

ViolaAnn - I noticed that too. The grower's outlet where I got these has had mislabeled plants before, so perhaps mine is not Loyalist? (I purchased 2 'Blue Angel', and later discovered one of them was 'Guardian Angel' *Blush* ) These were in heavy shade, doing well, but not growing very fast. I have plans to move them, since we took out a lot of trees this year.

It might not be, but I'd be hard-pressed to tell you just what it is. It certainly is not uncommon to find mis-labelled plants. It's not always the fault of the nursery as customers sometimes move the tags around.

Why does my most mature leaf on loyalist start to die?

And look how much green my loyalist has in the leaves...,

2016 picture. While Patriot didn't do particularly well, Loyalist did. July 23.
