A Simple Greenhouse Construction

By Bubbles
September 14, 2011

A few years ago, two fellow Master Gardeners wondered if it was possible to construct a simple greenhouse in three hours. Their goal was to teach four people how to build one. Those four would then each teach four more, and so on. The two recruited me to write the instructions, compile a supply and tool list, and take photos. The first greenhouse was built on the grounds of Zilker Botanical Garden.

I got stumped with the layering on the batten, but a salesrep over at GreenHouseMegaStore sent me to this page, and I understand how the batten works now. I'm building 3 greenhouses out of trampoline frames. I use 2.5 trampolines per greenhouse, with lumber horizontal supports. I wanted to secure the poly film to the horizontal supports but got really really stumped on how to utilize the batten.

Your pics and how-to text straightened it all out for me. Thank You !

Welcome to All Things Plants! I'm so glad we can help you! Your trampoline greenhouses sound interesting and ambitious. I hope you'll share your progress and photos as you build them. When you get a chance, click on the link and check out the Greenhouses forum http://garden.org/forums/view/... here on ATP. Members share their experiences, can ask questions, offer suggestions, and love to help anyone constructing a greenhouse. . .or three! I think you will love it. Everyone is so friendly.

Here's another article that shows a photo of the batten tape crossing the hoophouse we put up to keep our plants warm for the brief winter we have here. I just took it down last week and stored it along the side of the house.
