Pure reds are sadly lacking in my garden, but I have put together a collection of what I consider my favorite reds:

EMPEROR'S ROYAL RED - My favorite, sent to me by mistake, and I love the pure deep red velvety texture!

CARY GRANT - A gift plant

HELIX - More of a deep oxblood red with yellow-green, but it's a favorite!
Thumb of 2011-09-08/Betja/1cdf23

DOUBLY HOT - I'm not that fond of the doubles, but this one has a hot, deep velvety red color that turns a wonderful velvety orange-red by afternoon.

THIN MAN - Unfortunately, this one can look pretty strange sometimes.

Does anyone else have any reds you'd like to share?

Fabulous reds in my garden are HEARTS OF FIRE and I have a row of it. It just bloomed and bloomed and bloomed this year. Great daylily!

An older red that is fairly new to me but I just fell in love with was CHICAGO APACHE.

Will return with more of my favorite reds.

I realized last year, that 90% of my daylilies were red. So I have been trying to broaden my palette a bit this year.

Some of my favorite reds are:

Chicago Apache. My first year with it, and it is awesome. I would recommend it to anyone

Thumb of 2011-09-09/philljm/f028b3

Charles Johnson - I just loved this one, It got overtaken by my old cottage dip, so I transplanted it to the front a few weeks ago. It didn't always open as a bagel. The photo doesn't do it justice, it was truly a rich red.

Thumb of 2011-09-09/philljm/62da02

VT Maroon Branch. The color is kind of washed out. But it is a late bloomer and still has buds that are blooming. It is bud building this year, and I can't complain about the plant habit.

Thumb of 2011-09-09/philljm/fc6e16

I have a lot of other reds, including Flame of Freedom, Green Throated Robin, Ruby Throat, Holly Dancer, etc, etc, etc, but these are some of my (many) favorites. ~Jan

Beautiful reds! Two of you now have enthusiastically listed CHICAGO APACHE, so that's one I may have to check out at some point. And I just noticed that two of you also have listed DOUBLE BLUE BLOOD and VIRGIL'S SUSPENDERS too. I've been eyeballing ROSES IN SNOW for a couple of years now and may just have to get it at some point. I believe I do have a couple of its kids, though, and that's what has kept me from purchasing it so far. And I got WILLIE MARKUS this year, but it hasn't bloomed yet for me. I'm dying to see it!

I want to add more favorite reds around here that are,
FLAMENCO CHRISTMAS
BETTY FORD
FABULOUS FRIEDA

I am picky about red. I have many that are sort of red but not enough red that I would call them red. If they have orange in them or purple in them I don't list them with the reds.

I have Westbournes that are great reds, WESTBOURNER BIG AND REDD ALL OVER and a westboune seedling that is just truely red and lovely.

I just got Firestorm this year, and snagged Sergeant Major at a local daylily society sale last month. Calypso Dancer was a bonus earlier this summer also.

And just today, in the mail, I got Bobby Baxter's Moosa Pa Loosa (gotta LOVE that name) can't wait for that one to bloom next year.

Did I mention I love reds? Big Grin ~Jan

May I jump in? I have a favorite red daylily that just blew my sox off this summer. I planted in the spring of 2010, last summer it wasn't much to look at....this summer was totally different. I couldn't seem to take a bad picture of it!
